It's just...
It's like, the worst company to get a stadium named after... it's like Walmart Park...

citi field actually kinda fits since its in one of the biggest, most famous cities on earth. Target field is rediculously corprate sounding, but no where near as bad as using the name Wal Mart.
Target Field is no more "corporate sounding" than Chase Field, Turner Field, U.S. Cellular Field, Progressive Field, Minute Maid Park (WTF?!), Citizens Bank Park, PNC Park, PETCO Park, AT&T Park, Tropicana Field, etc.
In fact, it fits right in.
Target is a Minnesota company, and the team wanted to keep its sponsor local.

The T-Wolves arena is already the Target Center, so it's not like this is a "new" name.

I think they chose it to make it safer. I mean, can you imagine the following conversation?
"We will strike at the American infidels in their own decadent Western sports stadiums! So tell me, Ahmed, where shall we attack first?"
"Well, we could...nah, too obvious!"

heh.
I'm not entirely sure what the deal with people caring about something like this ...
If a company wants to put their name on something for a few million dollars a year more power to them ...
Its not like baseball isn't in the dark ages over corporate sponsorship to maintain some for of self-important "purity" that doesn't even exist.
Exactly. The Fenway's and Wrigley's are the things of the past, its all about the dollar nowadaysTarget Field is no more "corporate sounding" than Chase Field, Turner Field, U.S. Cellular Field, Progressive Field, Minute Maid Park (WTF?!), Citizens Bank Park, PNC Park, PETCO Park, AT&T Park, Tropicana Field, etc.
