He threw it plenty. What, 49 times, I think? It just wasn't effective because the run was completely shut down, and they had a tough time stringing together enough completions to score. Manning saw a fair amount of pressure, plus his receivers all had bad games.

Usually the best thing to do against the Bears stacking the line is to run the ball right up the gut, throw the quick slant, or take a shot deep if the blitz showing was bluffed. None of these things worked too well for the Colts last night.

I don't know, but the collective happiness level of New England now relies on the Sox.

Honestly, I think the decision making of the Colts was a bit suspect that night as well.

4th and 1 at midfield and the bears stick 9 guys in the box waiting for the run. Peyton sees this and does not do his classic audible. He hands the ball off straight up the middle on a defense that had been picking his oline apart all game.

Football games are won and lost in the trenches when you play a team like the Bears and last night the Colts O line lost. Bad.

Very. Also, Peyton should have known how to pick up on the stacked line. Either Babich and the Bears have made some changes to what they're doing when they put everyone in the box, or the Colts really were that bad.

I think it was a little of both.

Well, I'm not sure what else you're going to do on 4th and 1... Perhaps he just made an incorrect read, and thought they were going to be cheating on a potential pass. Perhaps he even made the correct read, but they were too good up front.

    Yep.

Both Colts lines lost bad. The Bears O-line and TEs pushed that Colts D around, wore them out, and took the D-line out of the game. I think the Bears offensive line was the biggest key to the game.

There are other ways. Especially if you see 9 men in the box.

Yeah but, that's the point of *always* putting 9 men there. They're not always stacking for a run or a blitz. The Bears always stack the line. It's how their defense plays. Besides, the Colts also had 9 men right up there also. Just so happens the Bears' 9 was tougher.

True but on fourth and one the defense *expects* the run. Like you said "what else is there to do?" you really think a defense is going to fake a blitz on fourth and one and drop back into a zone when the O-line is goal line?

It's true that the Colts lost that battle and that it wasn't all Peyton's fault but when you see 9 guys. It's fourth and one and your running a slower fullback up the middle....I would suggest maybe something different.

Yep, Bears were VERY impressive last night. That defense is smacking heads. Forte looks really good, too, though they also finally started retooling that offensive line, which I think helped. And NOT having Rex Grossman at quarterback can work wonders.

By the way, anyone see Vince Young's act yesterday? After he threw his second godawful pick of the game (a pass to the flat picked off by THE DEFENSIVE END), he sort of pouted his way to the sidelines. Then, on their next possession...he sat there. Kerry Collins started warming up (and the fans cheered that)...eventually Fisher had to go over and basically order Young back in to the game (this was prior to his injury). Anyway, the Titans claim it was due to a hamstring injury, but several players (notably Keith Bulluck) have already said that he pretty much quit on the team, and that's something they would never do. I already considered this guy to be one of the worst quarterbacks I have ever seen play pro football, and now he is apparently a complete ass.

    Thank God,

Hopefully all the bandwagon Patriot fans(estimated around 60-85%) will finally piss off. Guess the only positive is the Patriot fans aren't quite as bad as Red Sox fans.

Only if Daunte didn't retire earlier in the week, he and Moss could have been reunited.

60-85%? I think that is WAY high. I would put bandwagon fans at around 35-40% at MAX.

60-85 is like saying the only true pats fans are the owners and players and half of the season ticket holders.
