    Royals 19 - Indians 7

The Royals bats really seemed to be waking up lately, and that was on full display in this game. Every player in the lineup collected at least one hit, and everyone besides Joey Gathright collected multiple. John Buck, David Dejesus, and Jose Guillen all drove in three runs, Adam LaRoche drove in four, and Alex Gordon and Teixiera drove in two, and the only person not to drive in at least one was Mike Aviles. Oh, and Zack Greinke pitched a beauty, going six innings, allowing six hits, three walks, three runs, and sending eight down on K's.

    Just for fun....

Jonny Cueto pitched an absolute BEAUTY. Cueto went the distance, pitching a complete game shutout, allowed only four hits, walked one, and struck out an astounding 12 batters. Dejesus seemed to somewhat snap out of his season long funk with a 2-5 night that included a homer and three RBI's.

A pitcher's duel in every sense of the term. The only two runs came off for our side came off a two run blast hit by Jose Guillen. Bannister backed us with an eight inning, six hit, one walk, one run endeavor, striking out seven batters at the same time.

    A's 4 - Royals 5

Luke Hochevar helped continue the Royals recent run of success, going 7 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits, two walks, four runs, and striking out seven. Gathright led the team with two RBI's and a hit in three at bats at the plate.

    WP - Luke Hochevar (4-3)
    LP - Rich Harden (2-2)
    SV - Joakim Soria (8)

    May 7, 2008
    A's 1 - Royals 7

Tim Melville continued his rookie success, lowering his ERA to 2.15 with this seven inning, one run, six strikeout effort. Gathright was the guy on offense again, going 3-5 with two runs, an RBI, and two steals. Alex Gordon, Esteban German, and John Buck all also contributed two RBI's a piece.

    WP - Tim Melville (5-0)
    LP - Brett Anderson (3-2)

    May 8, 2008
    A's 4 - Royals 8

As has become customary, Greinke pitched a very good game. He went 7 2/3 innings, gave up two runs, one earned, and struck out six, while giving up six hits and three walks. Soria struggled some in the ninth, giving up two runs on two hits, including a homer, but still managed to get the save. It was Gathright again at the plate. He went 2-5 with a run, a ribbie, and a steal.

    WP - Zack Greinke (7-1)
    LP - Greg Smith (0-4)
    SV - Joakim Soria (9)

    May 9, 2008
    A's 8 - Royals 9

Alex Gordon, Mike Aviles, and Jose Guillen all homered in support of Jonny Cueto. Good thing too, because he needed all the support he could get, with a less than stellar five inning, five fun, eight hit outing this time around. Leo Nunez went 2 2/3 innings after Cueto and allowed three runs as well.

    WP - Joakim Soria (2-0)
    LP - Dallas Braden (0-1)

    May 10, 2008
    Royals 4 - Tigers 1

Bannister pitched another good game, going 7 2/3 innings, gave up nine hits, walked two, allowed one run, and struck out five, en route to the win. Shave Costa hit a solo homer in support, and Teixiera, Gordon, and Gathright all drove in runs as well.

    WP - Brian Bannister (4-3)
    LP - Armando Galarraga (3-2)
    SV - Ramon Ramirez (2)

    May 11, 2008
    Royals 10 - Tigers 2

Hochevar helped the Royals to yet another win. This time he went eight innings, gave up eight hits, three walks, and two runs, and struck out four. Offensively LaRoche blasted his 10th home run of the season, and Tex' went 4-4 with a walk, a run, and two ribbies.

    WP - Luke Hochevar (5-3)
    LP - Justin Verlander (2-3)

    May 11, 2008
    Royals 5 - Tigers 7

Our first loss in what seems like forever. Tim Melville pitched decent, four runs, five hits, five walks, and seven K's in five innings, but Leo Nunez really blew it for us. Nunez allowed three runs, four hits, two walks, and struck out none in 2 2/3 innings near the end of the game. Offensively Mike Aviles hit his third homer and Dejesus legged out a triple.

Re: Who needs George Brett when you have Alex Gordon!?

Gonna get through the rest of May with the next update, probably tomorrow or the next day, and then take us up to where I am now in-game with the subsequent update.

Should be all caught up and have things rolling again by this weekend.

    Yankees 2 - Royals 3

I think its safe to say that Greinke has established himself as a dominant starter in this league, after yet another amazing start. To get his eighth win of the season, Greinke had to go eight innings, allowed nine total base runners, two runs, and struck out eight. We only put three runs on the board, two RBI's by Dejesus and another by Gordon, despite collecting 13 team hits, at least one by everyone but John Buck.

    WP - Zack Greinke (8-1)
    LP - Chein-Ming Wang (3-5)
    SV - Joakim Soria (10)

    May 14, 2008

Cueto dominated Yankees hitters, going eight innings, allowing zero runs, and striking out four. But it was the complete flip-side for the Yankees, as the only pitched of the six the Yankees used to go two or more innings was Joba Chamberlain. Jose Guillen and Alex Gordon led the way offensively, going 2-5 with two runs and a homer each, Guillen drove in three runs and Gordon drove in two runs however.

    WP - Jonny Cueto (3-2)
    LP - Phil Hughes (2-3)

    May 15, 2008
    Yankees 4 - Royals 7

The Yankees, for the second game in a row, failed to have a pitcher pitch more than two innings, and this time Jose Veras and Joba were the only two to go 2+. On our side, Bannister pitched decent, allowing three runs in 6 1/3 innings, while Soria got his 11th save of the season by getting the last out of the game. Adam LaRoche hit a two run home run and walked to highlight the offense, but all of the 1-4 hitters (Gathright, German, Gordon, and Tex') had an RBI a piece in front of LaRoche.

    WP - Brian Bannister (5-3)

    Royals 12 - Orioles 8

A pretty poor game for Royals pitching in general. Hochevar didn't pitch TOO bad, five runs (four earned) in five innings, but every pitched after him allowed a run as well, to make it a pretty close game. Overall we allowed 17 hits, eight runs, six of them earned, three walks, and struck out seven. Alex Gordon really had himself a ball game, going 2-5 with a pair of homers and 5 RBI's. Teixeira, LaRoche, and Guillen all homered as well.

    WP - Luke Hochevar (6-3)
    LP - Troy Patton (2-2)
    SV - Joakim Soria (12)

    Royals 12 - Orioles 8

Tim Melville may have very well pitched what was the finest game of his young career. Melville went five and a third innings, allowed only four hits, walked five, allowed one run, and struck out ten. Royals manager Trey Hillman said of Melville "The kid is having a fantastic rookie year. If he pitches like this every start for his whole career, he's gonna have a fine career ahead of him." Alex Gordon and Adam LaRoche drove in two runs a piece at the plate.

    WP - Tim Melville (6-0)
    LP - Daniel Cabrera (4-2)
    SV - Kyle Davies (1)

    Royals 6 - Orioles 5

Greinke had his first sub-par start in a while. He pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed nine hits, one walk, five runs, and struck out six, but still earned the win. The five runs in 5+ innings still only raised his ERA to 2.65. At the plate, Dejesus, LaRoche, Costa, and Buck all drove in one run, while Callaspo drove in two.

    WP - Ramon Ramirez (2-1)
    LP - George Sherrill (0-5)
    SV - Joakim Soria (13)

Cueto really racked up some K's against the Orioles, but couldn't get a win. Cueto went seven innings, allowed five hits, three walks, four runs (three earned), and struck out 13. Jimmy Gobble blew it, however, allowing three runs without recording an out. At the plate, Alex Gordon went 4-5 with 3 RBI's and fell a homer short of the cycle.

    Twins 2 - Royals 4

Livan Hernandez of the Twins gave up 10 hits to us, but we still struggled to put runs on the board, getting only four. Bannister, fortunately, was brilliant, going eight innings and allowing only two runs, and striking out six. Joakim Soria locked it down for his 14th save of the season. Joey Gathright smacked two doubles and Dejesus, Teixeira, and Costa drove in a run each.

An odd game in terms of pitching for us. Luke Hochevar allowed six runs before being pulled after an inning and a third of work, but Kyle Davies pitched the final 7 2/3 of the game without allowing a run. Hochevar's sub-par inning and a third was still our undoing, however. Mike Aviles hit a double and a triple, and Jose Guillen whacked his 14th homer of the year.

Tim Melville struggled for the first time in his young career. He managed to go only 4 1/3 innings, allowed six hits, three walks, and four runs, and struck out three. It didn't help that Kevin Slowey pitched eight innings of two run ball on the other side, and that Leo Nunez and Jimmy Gobble each allowed a run out of the bullpen, though. Alex Gordon hit his 10th homer of the season, a solo shot, and Gathright was the only Royals player with more than one hit.

    WP - Kevin Slowey (5-2)
    LP - Tim Melville (6-1)

    May 24, 2008
    Royals 3 - Marlins 2

Quite the pitcher's duel between Zack and Jae Weong Seo to kick off this series. Zack turned in a seven inning, two hit, two walk, two run, eight strikeout performance, while Seo went eight, allowed seven hits, no runs, three runs, and 5 K's. It was Seo's defense that did him in though, as only two of the three runs he allowed were earned. Jose Guillen hit his 15th homer of the season, while John Buck, Tex', Callapso, and LaRoche all hit doubles.

    WP - Zack Greinke (9-1)
LP - Jae Weong Seo (1-3)
    SV - Joakim Soria (15)

    May 25, 2008
    Royals 4 - Marlins 5

Joakim Soria got his first loss of the season. He came into the game in the ninth with the score tied and gave up a walk-off homer to the first batter he faced, Hanley Ramirez. Jonny Cueto got cheated out of a win after a good outing once again. Cueto went 6 2/3 innings, allowed just three runs, and struck out 11 batters. Jose Guillen and Mike Aviles both went 2-4 with a run and an RBI.

    WP - Kevin Gregg (3-0)
    LP - Joakim Soria (2-1)

    May 26, 2008
    Royals 0 - Marlins 6

The Royals were nearly on the wrong side of history against the Marlins tonight. If not for a David Dejesus infield single to third base, the Marlins starter Burk Badenhop would have had a no-hitter. As it was, he ended up with a complete game one hit shutout and struck out seven. On the our side, Bannister made it through only 3 2/3 innings and allowed 11 hits and six runs before being pulled.

    WP - Burk Badenhop (4-2)
    LP - Brian Bannister (6-4)

    May 28, 2008
    Royals 5 - Reds 6

Another start like this and Hochevar could lose his spot in the rotation. He went only four innings and allowed five runs (four earned) and raised his ERA to 5.83. Alex Gordon hit a home run in the losing effort and Tex' went four for five, falling a home run short of the cycle with three RBI's.

    WP - Aaron Harang (3-4)
    LP - Luke Hochevar (6-5)
    SV - David Weathers (3)

    May 29, 2008
    Royals 16 - Reds 3

After everything going wrong for the Royals in recent weeks, nothing went wrong in this game. The offense completely rolled over Cincy pitching, including a three home run, seven RBI effort from Tex' and two RBI's from Alex Gordon, Esteban German, and Joey Gathright. Even Zack Greinke hit an RBI double in support of himself. But his finest work came on the mound. Zack went seven innings, allowed seven hits, two walks, no runs, and struck out seven. And just for fun.....

Tim Melville showed one of the most important traits of an ace pitcher after this start - the ability to bounce back after a rough start the game before. Giants 4 - Royals 9

This game was over rather quickly. Giants starter Nick Pereira lasted only four innings before he was pulled after giving up six runs. The subsequent pitchers, Barry Zito and Kelvin Pichardo, didn't fare much better, combining to allow three runs, six hits, and a walk in four innings. Jonny Cueto fared much better in notching his fourth win of the season, going eight innings and allowing only three runs. LaRoche went 3-4 with a homer and three RBI's, and Mike Aviles also hit his fourth bomb of the season.

The ninth inning was the story of the game. We trailed 4-1 going into the bottom of the inning, but then this happened:

We really blew a great opportunity in this game. We got to Lincecum early, hitting him up for six runs (five earned) in 3 1/3 innings, but couldn't touch the bullpen, and our pitching staff got thoroughly beaten thereafter. Luke Hochevar and Kyle Davies alone combined for 5 2/3 innings, 13 hits, five walks, and 13 earned runs. Our offensive cornerstone, Alex Gordon, went 0-4 with a walk and 4 K's. Just an all-around terrible performance.

    Tigers 3 - Royals 4

A pretty exciting and bizarre game. Zack Greinke allowed only three runs in seven innings, all of them on a home run by Jeff Larish, and walked no one, but he allowed a whopping 11 hits. We trailed going into the bottom of the ninth, but the Tigers loaded the bases by allowing Mike Aviles to single, intentionally walking Joey Gathright, and shortstop Danny Worth booting a ball hit by Esteban German. Alex Gordon then smacked a walkoff two run double.

    WP - Ramon Ramirez (4-1)
    LP - Bobby Seay (0-4)

    June 5, 2008
    Tigers 3 - Royals 2

Quite the game. Verlander and Cueto went toe to toe in a great pitcher's duel. Verlander went eight innings and allowed only one run, and Cueto did the same in seven innings. The game was tied at 1 going into the ninth when Jeff Larish and Jacque Jones hit back to back RBI singles off Soria to take the lead.

    WP - Justin Verlander (4-4)
    LP - Joakim Soria (2-2)
    SV - Bobby Seay (19)

    June 5, 2008
    Tigers 4 - Royals 6

Tigers started Armando Galarraga got rocked. He gave up five runs on six hits, two homers, and a walk in three innings. Brian Bannister allowed only one earned run in 6 1/3 innings of work, but spotty defense led to an extra three unearned runs. Jose Guillen hit his team leading 16th homer of the season and Brayan Pena hit his first of the season.

    WP - Brian Bannister (7-4)
    LP - Armando Galarraga (4-5)
    SV - Joakim Soria (17)

Re: Who needs George Brett when you have Alex Gordon!?

    Yay! All caught up!

I do have a bit of a concern though. I feel like my writing is becoming/has become too....uniform or predictable. Like I'm highlighting all the same things in the exact same order every same and that my writing is bland. It might be because I was writing about games that I didn't "see" with my own two eyes, so maybe it'll go away now that I'll be able to see the games again.

    Still though, feedback? Suggestions?

I'm gonna get an update on this done tonight at some point. Probably not until later though, because I've got a lot of homework this weekend and today is my only day to do it because I'm gonna be busy most of the day tomorrow.

    Royals 0 - Twins 4

Our hitters were completely baffled by Nick Blackburn all night. Blackburn went six innings and gave up only three hits and no runs, as well as striking out six batters. Hochevar actually had a decent start for the first time in a while (7 IP, 6 H, 2 BB, 2 HR, 4 ER, 10 K's) but Blackburn was too much for our hitters and he couldn't get the run support for a win.

    WP - Nick Blackburn (6-4)
    LP - Luke Hochevar (6-6)

    Team Notes:

    • After trading Jeff Fulchino to the Reds before the start of the season just a few months ago, he was offered back to us for a host of prospects, a deal we accepted. In exchange for Fulchino we sent pitching prospects Blake Wood (65/78), Julio Cesar Pimental (65/81), and Sam Runion (63/79). Fulchino (86/88) had appeared in 21 games with the Reds and had posted a 2.01 ERA with 38 K's to 9 walks in 40 1/3 innings.

    Royals 5 - Twins 4

Tim Melville and Alex Gordon teamed up to help the Royals to a win in game two of this set against the Twins. Alex Gordon smacked two homers and collected three RBI's to lead the offense, whilst Melville kept Minnesota hitters at bay most of the night, holding them to three runs, three hits, and three walks in his six innings of work.

    WP - Tim Melville (8-1)
    LP - Brian Duensing (5-3)
    SV - Joakim Soria (18)

    Royals 3 - Twins 8

Greinke truly struggled for the first time all season, though it was not all his fault. Greinke pitched only 3 2/3 innings, allowed eight hits, two walks, and five runs. However, of those five runs, only three were earned. On the flip side, Perkins was fantastic on the bump for Minny. He pitched eight innings and allowed only one earned run, despite allowing nine hits.

    WP - Glen Perkins (1-3)
    LP - Zack Greinke (10-2)

    Royals Outlast Rangers in Slugfest

The Rangers turned what appeared to be a cakewalk into a squeaker.

The big inning for the Royals was the fourth. They scored seven runs on six hits in the inning, highlighted by a Jose Guillen grand slam.

Going into the top of the sixth inning the Royals led 11-0 and Jonny Cueto was mowing down Texas hitters with very little trouble, but things exploded from there.

Cueto sent down the first two hitters in the sixth with no trouble, but in almost no time flat the Rangers had put a six spot on the board with three run jacks from Taylor Teagarden and Michael Young. Before the inning was over they tacked on another run, given up by Tim Hamulack, and were within four.

We managed to get a run back in the bottom of the sixth, a run that would prove vital in the grand scheme of the game, as the Rangers pushed across four more runs before the end of the ninth and lost 11-12.

After finding that we would be without Bannister for a while, Davies stepped up big time. Davies went 8 2/3 innings of shutout baseball, and allowed only three hits and three walks. Alex Gordon provided all the offense the team needed with a two run homer, and Shane Costa chipped in an RBI single as well.

Hochevar and Soria combined to lose this game for us. Luke had another terrible start, going three innings and allowing six runs, but the offense managed to hold us up for a while. Teixiera and Dejesus each collected three RBI's and Aviles one of his own, as we led 7-6 going into the ninth. But Soria allowed three hits, a home run, and two runs before retiring the side, and recording the loss.

8 2/3 innings from Davies? Are you trying to get Soria the saves record or something? Let him finish what he started!

I know, tell me about it. I didn't play that game out in PBP otherwise Davies would have a complete game shutout on his stat card right.

    ARGH!

I'm such a dumbass. I was going through cleaning up my game files because I had a ton of files from leagues and just files I was messing around on that I didn't need and I'm somewhat of a neat freak when it comes to my computer and keeping files organized and what not, and I accidentally deleted ALL of my game files, meaning this one too.

So yet another one of my dynasties is gone. Sorry guys .
