E.G.: The Red Sox. If they had a shot at Teixeira the smart thing would be to give the lions share of time to Youk and Tex and let Lowell and Papi scrap over the DH......but I'd rather win and lose with Papi and Lowell for the next 1-2 years then bring in Tex because I'm just stupid that way and for all of Theo's "Don't fall in love with your stars" philosophy, I suspect the Sox FO is as bad as I am.
Hasn't the Yankees attempt to buy every star FA and punch them into their lineup taught us anything over the past 8 years? Why would the smart move be to sign Tex and make Lowell and Papi part timers? Chemistry, although often overrated...in the cases of these large market teams often gets underrated IMO. This would be a horrific move. Sure Lowell & Papi have had a few injuries this year...but part-timing star talent usually causes inconsistency and/or conflict in the long run. Both are still highly productive...use the money on pitching and/or signing the young emerging talent.

The likely hood is that 20 teams will be going after Tex - with the 2 NY teams SIMULTANEOUSLY desperate for a 1B - seems unlikely the BoSox will or need to get into that battle ESPECIALLY with Anderson at AA & ready to called up mid way through 09.

Luckily their INF is set with Youk,Pedrioa,Lowrie/Cora/Lugo & Lowell.

OF too but MAY need a OF bis to cover Drew's back or Ellsbury struggles - team will/has lost Manny/Moss & Kotsay.

Pitching is the NEED - Wake will be 1 year older & 1 injury away from end...Clay is well still learning which leaves 4/5 spots in the ??? category & the pen needs an overhaul with only Okajima & Paps certainties.

Rumour has it that Burnett is on their WISH list, can't see them going after CC but may get into the Sheets Sweep or even take a 1 or 2 year flyer on "American Idle" Pavano!

I think they DID this in the draft & International FA - signed 4th round Westmoreland for 2 mill - Hissey for 1 mill etc - spent 11.55 million & were unlucky not to change Meyer's mind after offering 1.75 mill (rumour had it he wanted 2.55) BUT the minors are pretty loaded as shown by the AA & AAA teams are in their playoffs

Id resign Glavine and Smoltz to 2 mill deals with insentives up to about 7-8 million. go tet sabathia and try and coax Texeria back since he claimes he love it so much. Trade Francouer for and a young arm for a pitcher GOD knows where we could find one and have next year a rotation of
    #1 Hudson
    #2 Sabathia
    #3 Smoltz
    #4 Jurgens
    #5 Glavine

I'd LOVE to se manny but he wouldnt sign a 2 year deal and he will cost some dumb gm 20+ a year and im not willing to pay it. That is keeping the payroll roughly the same.

    we lose
    Hampton 15million
    texeria 14 million
    Smoltz 14 million
    Glavine 8 million

thats 51 million. 17-19 to sabathia and 20 to texeria.

Besides being unfounded rhetoric...it taught us what? How to get into the playoffs 7 years in a row. The playoffs *are* a crapshoot.

As for Lowell and Papi...I'll go on record now to say neither one of them will ever duplicate their 2007 success again, and you can wave that in my face for as long as I live should I be wrong.

Hmmm, lessee. First, I'd hire somebody to drag Peter Angelos out behind the warehouse and administer the Tonya Harding Treatment with a Louisville Slugger...

As for the team, trade Mora, toss Millar into the Inner Harbor and make him swim back to Boston, or to the Lotte Orion Marines or wherever...and Jay Payton can join him. Ramon Hernandez can stay around just long enough to be sure that Matt Wieters can call a major league game, then it's into the drink with him, too.

Move heaven and earth to land Mark Teixeira in orange and black. Sure, that's everyone else's idea, too, and it would make more sense to get a FA pitcher (Ben Sheets?), but he's a local boy and actually wants to be with his hometown team growing up.

Re: If you were GM of your team..

In addition to my last post...
DONT resing smoltz and glavine... let them ride into the sunset... throw 7-10 million at maddux :P

now back to reality dont resign them and go for sheets too

Resign chippers deal for 4 years 8 per year with te 3rd and 4th an option to save another 4 million.

    C. Mcann
    1B Texeria
    2B Johnson
    3B Chipper
    SS Escobar
    LF Diaz
    CF Blanco
    RF *shudder* Francouer

    #1 Blanco
    #2 Escobar
    #3 Johnson
    #4 Chipper
    #5 Texeria
    #6 Mcann
    #7 Francouer
    #8 Diaz

I like moving everyone up and puting johnson in 6th instead of 3rd.. that works for me

I was thinking more along the lines of spending nearly 1.5 billion, more than twice any other team during that same period, and having no WS titles to show for it. But if spending that coin and merely making the playoffs are enough for you.......you are a fan of the right team.

No amount of money can buy a World Series win.

I would get Texiera and make him split time at Catcher . This would be to make all the other teams get mad.
