So basically, everyone on Around the Horn?

I pretty much agree 100% with all these. Well, Jay Mariotti hardly qualifies as a sportswriter. He's more a shock artist. Also, he's gone, thank God. But he'll still be on TV.

Around the Horn should get rid of Bill Plaschke and bring TJ Simers back. I like TJ.

Yes, they really know how to assemble an All-Star cast of blowhards.

But, there's other bad writers too.

Honestly, maybe they aren't bad WRITERS, but they try to be analysts, which completely sends their stories down the drain, because they're full of nonsense analysis. Maybe if they stuck to simply reporting the news and telling stories, they'd be fine. Leave the analysis to those that know what they're doing.

I definitely agree with This idea about Passan, I read alot of articles of his that what I expect from a writer then there are some where i can't help but think he didn't feel like working and let his 8= year0-old son write it.

Lee is now 22-2 with a 2.36 ERA. He had some trouble tonight in the 9th as he gave up 3 earned runs. Just amazing pitching from him this year.

I don't know I really like Woody's pieces on the X games. He tends to have his good days.

But anytime you stick a sports writer in the position of analyzing I think it's wrong.

They do tend to stick themselves in those situations...

The paper tends to do that to you when they bump you to columnist. When I joined my high school paper four years ago I worked as a straight sports writer and wanted to be columnist. Then I realized...writer is easy. Your non-objective. No one gives you guff if your a good writer.

Columnists are great at writing but when your a columnist your asked to write your opinion on things. Sometimes the paper tells you the subject and you have to make an opinion that will sell papers. It's not always the columnists fault.

Now the boys on around the horn (even Paige) stick themselves in situations. They don't have to be on there...they do it because they think they know a lot more then they actually do.

Doesn't mean they are terrible writers...just that they have large egos.

Fransisco Rodriguez should win the Cy Young. Tough luck to the pitchers who may have won 20 this season. The CY awards the best pitcher and his contributions to his team throughout the season. Anaheim took an above average 1-5 staff, excellent bullpen and FR at the end. He has earned it.

Hell No he has not. Nathan, Rivera, Soria, and Papelbon have all earned. He only has the saves total because the Angels keep putting him in every save situation possible. This season has made him WAAAAAy to overrated. The save stat is formed by the performance of a team getting to a lead of 3 runs or less in the ninth. If a team has that lead, and blasts their closr out there over and over, then of course he will have a lot of saves. (There is other rules for saves, but K-Rod is mostly used in this one)

Rodriguez should be nowhere near the Cy Young discussion, and he DEFINITELY shouldn't win it.

I certainly agree he would, and should, get votes, but he shouldn't win.

And, seriously, I can't think of anyone who should be above Lee and Halladay in the top 2 spots.

well he will get votes, simply because some voters will base the votes on one stat, not how he pitched.

If you base the Cy Young award on how effectively a pitcher has pitched we will not get any votes.

I didn't mean first place votes. He was extremely good in his role, and will and should receive some consideration. I'm not sure if he will receive any first place votes, but now that I think about it, I wouldn't be shocked if he received some.

In fact, to say he isn't pitching well is just ignorant. He's almost a 10k/9ip and has a 178 era+. Whether or not you like the save stat, you have to admit he is effective.
