    One last olympic thread

So Chicago is up against Madrid, Rio and Tokyo in the bidding for 2016.

Who's going to win the Games?

I won't even get into the local ramifications of a Chicago Olympiad... there's a lot of good and bad in it. I lived in Salt Lake City shortly before the Winter Olympics that were held there, and even that was a rather large undertaking. I can't even imagine what life would be like here in 8 years.

I'm voting Chicago to take it. Mayor Daley is working all his resources to make certain this happens, and it's very hard to bet against him when he puts his weight behind anything.

I think Tokyo is close. Spain is not that large a country, and hosted the Olympics relatively recently, so I don't think Madrid is anywhere near winning it. Rio has a good shot because the country is a newcomer, and Latin America hasn't hosted in 40 years, which will be 52 years as of 2016. But I hear the infrastructure is in serious trouble to get ready in time.

What, no one wants an excuse to go to Tokyo in 2016? It may be expensive as hell but I might go if possible. I would graduate from college in 2015 and would have a year to save up that much money.

    LMAO.

I think it'll probably be Rio or Chicago, but my American homer-ism is forcing me to vote for Chicago .

Also, I think another thing keeping Madrid from getting it are some of their racist antics in recent years. I know they're eight years away, but everything from the thing with the Olympic basketball team this year, some Indy car racer receiving racial slurs after a race in Spain, and other incidents I can vaguely recall hearing about.

Well, Japan just HAD a Winter Games in Nagano, so I think they're out. I would probably say Rio gets it...IOC would love to establish a footprint in South America, and they know Brazil would spend like drunken idiots to create a spectacle to get further global attention. Plus, they have one of the fastest growing economies on Earth.

I voted for Rio, because I hate the city of Chicago. If it was ANY other city, I woulod be fine. Well, New York I would not like, but still.....

It's incredibly close-minded to hate a whole CITY.
