So Chicago is up against Madrid, Rio and Tokyo in the bidding for 2016.
Who's going to win the Games?
I won't even get into the local ramifications of a Chicago Olympiad... there's a lot of good and bad in it. I lived in Salt Lake City shortly before the Winter Olympics that were held there, and even that was a rather large undertaking. I can't even imagine what life would be like here in 8 years.
I'm voting Chicago to take it. Mayor Daley is working all his resources to make certain this happens, and it's very hard to bet against him when he puts his weight behind anything.
I think Tokyo is close. Spain is not that large a country, and hosted the Olympics relatively recently, so I don't think Madrid is anywhere near winning it. Rio has a good shot because the country is a newcomer, and Latin America hasn't hosted in 40 years, which will be 52 years as of 2016. But I hear the infrastructure is in serious trouble to get ready in time.
