Good lord...I can't stand Barry, but my utter despisement (if it isn't a word, it should be) of the IOC continues to grow. The utter and total hypocrisy of these corrupt morons never ceases to amaze me.

I watched this interview and I don't think Rogge said this at all. He said that a lot of OTHER countries other than the U.S. tend to group baseball and softball as similar sports and since the steroid issue DID leave a stain..other countries carried those negative feelings to softball as well..and that's why it kinda fell out of favor. He said that was ONE reason. Barry Bonds is the face of the steroid issue and that's just the way it is...but he didn't say anything to that degree. He just said that steroids shed a negative light on baseball and other countries WERE WRONG to group softball in with all of that..and that softball is already up for reinstatement.

It would be ridiculous if he did, but not surprising. The more I hear from this Mr. Rogge, the less I like him.

He kinda makes me yearn for the days of Juan Antonio "Cap'n Corruption" Samaranch. All he ever did (you know, ASIDE from take massive bribes) was egotistically require that people refer to him as 'Excellency' (I'm not making this up...kinda wish I was).

Is baseball tied to steroids? Sure it is. However, is there ANY sport with MORE ties, and long term ties, to steroids and performance enhancement than track and field? So, I guess that we'll just be banning every track event then, because all those positive tests have given everyone a dim view of the sport.

How about gymnastics and swimming. For years the Soviets and East Germans were having members kicked from their teams for doping in both those sports.

    Rogge is an idiot.

Track athletes are blood tested so often that it's ridiculous. Baseball players, at least here, it's way lighter testing in comparison. In a lot of international sports such as track and field..you can be tested at literally any time....if you refuse the test, it counts as a fail. In baseball..I doubt that's the case. There may still be some idiots in track and field who get caught, but I'd still say it is, or at least was, a bigger problem in baseball just because all they did was talk about it and the fans just aren't sure what's being done to prevent it. That may be starting to change....but not soon enough for some, apparently.

Also....if you wanna look at the event most affected by steroids..it would be bodybuilding and weightlifting.

Last I checked bodybuilding wasn't an Olympic sport.

As long as there is testing, there are going to be people looking for ways around it. That is in all sports.

    Bodybuilding isn't in the Olympics.

Definitely, you're right about weightlifters popping positive more frequently...but nobody notices. Seriously, name me an Olympic weightlifter. Now, if a medal winning sprinter pops for roids, EVERYBODY notices, because it's an event that gets a lot of attention.

I was kinda lumping the two together. Yeah, I know bodybuilding isn't an Olympic sport..but they are both major sports in which steroids is obviously a huge issue. Point remains the same.

And it is a valid one. I was just pointing out that, since nobody notices/cares when a weightlifter does test positive, it doesn't make quite the impact as the same happening to a sprinter.

Yup..I'd say weightlifting and bodybuilding even more so....it's just so blatantly obvious that any kind of rules couldn't even begin to be enforced.

See, I know we get in to these ridiculous debates regarding what is/isn't a sport all the time, but I REALLY don't see bodybuilding as a sport. I mean, come on...grotesques posing in skimpy undergarments? That ain't a sport.
