Proposed 2009 Yankee line-up

I think the other New York team is going to make a more serious play at either Teixeira or Manny (but not both), and I really think they will land one. It wouldn't surprise me to see Sabathia garner the attention of the Yankees, but it also wouldn't surprise me if he lands in Chicago. The Yankees aren't going to consider K-Rod (while that other New York team very well might). Of all of these, IMO Sheets might be the most likely to being a Yankee. And like I said above, it wouldn't surprise me it none of these went there. If I had to bet on one, I'd bet on Sheets.

And as for Manny, if I had to bet on one, I'd bet on the Dodgers signing him. As Filihok and Beerchaser have said, I agree it probably be a mistake, but that hasn't stopped Colletti before.

I think OFG's correct on this one. The Yankees will not take K-Rod or Manny. One of the other three will definitely be a Yankee next year, possibly two.

Of course, the fact that we are speaking of a single team out of 30 picking up one of the top five players available - All-Stars or very near - through monetary means as a matter of course pretty much proves the point I was making earlier...y'know, the one where I was told how wrong I was?

I see the Dodgers resigning Manny. He loves it there, they love him, and if he gets them into the playoffs, I expect him to be resigned. I don't believe the Dodgers have ever re-signed a free agent, ever, in the entire history of the franchise (I'm being facetious here... but it's not very Dodger-like, and I'm used to being disappointed). As a Dodger fan, I'd prefer to see them sign Teixeira and trade Loney (not enough power for 1B, move him to an AL team for prospects or an infielder), but that probably will not happen. I disagree that signing Manny to a 2 year deal (MAX!) would be a bad idea for the Dodgers... this is EXACTLY what the Dodgers have needed for years, exactly what they've abstained from, and exactly what makes them a serious contender: a truly GREAT power hitter. If he remains a Dodger after this season, I will be extremely happy. One more Dodger prediction: Andruw Jones will be released in November.

I also see the same thing with the Angels... I have a feeling they will absolutely sign Teixeira if he's huge for them down the stretch and in the playoffs (very likely, and I had them winning the WS even BEFORE that trade), because he is exactly what that team needs, and will help keep the in contention for years to come.

However... if either or both of these teams fail to resign these guys, I see the Mets as the leading player in both.

I also see Sabathia going to Chicago... to the Sox. And I feel that Sheets is almost guaranteed to end up a Yankee. The Dodgers and Phils could also be contenders for Sheets.

K-Rod will go to the Tigers or Mets, or resign with the Angels.

Delgado's option will be declined and he will end up with the Yankees, Tigers, White Sox, Angels or Blue Jays (again). Jim Thome is declined and also ends up with one of those teams (except the Sox), or ends up with the Indians again.

Not really. Every year, people TALK about the Yankees being huge players for every big free agent. I heard people last year talking about the Yankees going after Torii Hunter, Carlos Silva, Mike Lowell, Andruw Jones, etc.

I also don't doubt that they'll sign one or two big free agents this year. They do sign big free agents, and nobody's said otherwise. They don't pluck the top two or three free agents every single year though, and they aren't built only on free agent pick-ups, which is all I've said in the other thread.

On the Red Sox Newsgroup, a poster proposed this possible Yankee line-up for 2009 after a number of FA signings, and not signing others such as Mussina and Giambi.

"Their lineup could be:
LF Damon
SS Jeter
RF Ramirez
3b Rodriguez
1b Teixeira
DH Posada
2b Cano
C Molina
CF Cabrera

Their rotation could be:
SP Sabathia
SP Wang
SP Sheets

Now only three of their nine batters are under 33. And I did some simulations....now OF COURSE BM is not going rate these people as they are irl,... but essentially the defensive liabilites of the fielders are hurting what looks like a great starting pitching staff, on paper, too much. And...as today...any injuries are going to devestate that line-up. They allready have a couple of black-holes in Molina and Cabrera.

Sorry, i only read this first post, not the other 5 pages. This is F'IN hillarious!! Hey, take the top 5 or so FA's and lets play make-pretend that our favorite team gets them all!! Lets insert them onto the Red Sox. Or how bout the Rays, or even the Mets, Dodgers or Indians.

Sabathia isn't guarrenteed a Yankee either. Remember last year they wouldn't pony up $26 million a year to Santana, so why would they to CC. I've heard that the Yank's GM, wants to have a payroll under or about $200 million for next year, so even if they rid themselves of Mussina and Giambi and maybe Abreu and Pavano, that would leave very little for resigning the top stars.

I don't see Texeria becoming a Yankee either, because the Angels will re-sign him and maybe K-Rod, but let go the aged vets[ ie Anderson & Matthews]

Manny will retire a Dodger, if Torre has anything to say about it. Why let him go back east when they could use his veteran leadership in LA.
