    Yankee Bashing

Enough with Yankee bashing. I understand why everyone hates the Yanks, but take a look at your own team.

To start - Boston, Philly, Chicago, San Fran, and especially LA all have huge population bases. So this is not an excuse. Next time you are at work, ask a random fellow employee when they were last at a local ballgame. I know for the Yanks it is a high response. I know for LA it is low.

When you travel around the world, even some random place, what do you see? Yankees caps (and now Red Sox). Hmmm. I guess this is because they suck so bad.

In your TV market, does your team have its own channel? Well shucks, Steinbrunner was the first guy to set up his own baseball network and it is now equal to almost half the value of the team. What an idiot.

So basically selling your team to a large market, having loyal fans and winning are bad. Go cry on someone elses pillow.

No, just fed up. Just spent an evening with a bunch of friends who are Mets fans. Mets fans are probably the worst of all. Sick and tired of Yankees fans being tagged as bad fans.

Big Markets suck! I hate em all!-From Colorado. A small market team who has to feel the hurt of the big market every year and especially next year when Matt Holliday's contract comes up.

Cry to the owners. They choose to pocket the money.

Yeah, but is that the Yankees fault? The Yanks are now paying out large amounts in profit sharing. Is it enuff? I dont know. I wont cry over Denver though. They had their chance when they had Dante Bichette, Larry Walker, Vinny Castilla, and the up and coming Helton. Turns out their ownership was gonna go to jail though for fraud. Boo hoo. The Rockies, Rays, Diamondbacks, and Marlins are still expansion teams in my book, but hold on... the Marlins have won 2 WS and the Dbacks have won once. In the meantime, some well established teams have won zero.

I'm not on either side of the debate, but I do think it's lame to bash the Yankees (or any other larger-market teams) just because it's the popular thing to do. A lot of it might be admiration of the success of the franchise in its history, and that turns to anger and jealousy, since a Kansas City Royals or Pittsburgh Pirates fan will be pissed off at a Yankees fan for not having to sit through a long "rebuilding period" (at least for a very long time) in the team's history. I remember debating somebody years ago that complained how the Yankees "bought" all of their players while their own team "grew them" from the farm system. However, after we went down the roster, it turned out that the Yankees developed more of their players.

Not all Yankee fans are bad, IMO. But a huge number of them are loudmouthed, half-wits, who don't know the first thing about baseball and have no basis or information to back up anything they ever say. Its the idiots who respond to everything with "Yeah, well we've won 26 World Series!" that are the bad fans. The idiots who have no idea what they're talking about. The ones that barely know anything about their own team besides that Derek Jeter plays for it, let alone baseball or the rest of the league.

Every fanbase has their good fans who actually know and give a rat's ass, and the fans who think they know and try to pretend they know that sour everyone's feelings towards the team and the fans.

That's why if there was ever going to be a salary cap in baseball, which there never will be, a salary minimum would be a must as well. Sadly, for fans of small market teams, a lot of owners look at the team as an investment and don't have much of a desire to invest that profit in the team (signing/re-signing players).

We had our chance with Walker, Bichette, Castilla and Helton? Name one pitcher you remember from that 95-98 teams without looking it up. The Monforts were making crap deals left and right to try and gather enough pitching.

And actually the time of the Blake Street Bombers was right around the time the Yankees were dominating everything that stepped in their way.

You really think we could have beaten the 96, 98, 99 or 2000 Yankees with any of those Blake Street teams? Really? Or the 95 Braves? Hell the 97 Marlins dream team would have dominated us. Had our shot? Get real.

The Diamondbacks have been successful since their inception. The team has one of the better owners and GMs in the game. The Rockies? One of the worst. The Marlins build a champion then disassemble that ownership group doesn't work for a dynasty. The rockies do.

I'm not saying the Big Markets are horrible for baseball...I'm just saying I hate em. And that small market teams do hate them, a lot.

I'm not from Phily, Boston, or San Fran where the fans go everyday. I'm not from a big market so I'm not calling the kettle black.

Don't tempt me. Those were my favorite teams. I can probably still name the inaugural 40 man roster in alphabetical order.

The Rockies did have a chance there as well. They spent just as much money as other teams in the past decade, but it took them awhile to find out that nobody could pitch in Denver (pre-humidor days). Darryl Kile and Mike Hampton were elite pitchers before they became Rockies, and Kile was good after he got out of Colorado as well. I think running a team in Colorado has been more of a learning experience than any other team though... figuring out that you can't win with the Blake Street Bombers alone, then that spending huge amounts of money on pitching wasn't the answer either. Maybe they have it right finally.
