I think "Legend" might be overstating things a bit.

I don't know why people make such a big deal out of what hat a player wears. Most fans don't even know all the players from their favorite team who are in the HOF.

Oh, and Piazza is a LEGEND in NY. Trust me, I live in NYC, and Piazza is a hero to all the Mets fans here.

Remember, everyone, the question here is What team will Piazza represent? not What team should Piazza represent?

He won a pennant with the Mets, was a fan favorite, had some great seasons, played more in NY then LA (by like 1 year), and provided countless memories to Mets fans.

I'm not in either NYC or LA, so why should I give a **** what the fans in either city think of him? He's a Dodger, not a Met.

Why? , his statistics are nearly equal with each team... and he obviously liked playing in NY more, since he won a pennant here and was a fan favorite.

Because, IMO, he had his best years in LA, not NY. Just look at the MVP vote--he got MVP votes in all 5 of his full seasons in LA, but in only 3 of his 7 full seasons in NY (well, OK, 2003 wasn't exactly a full season for him).

To somebody who isn't in NY or LA, it is not obvious that he liked playing in NY better.

I don't live in NY, but I live in NJ, and close to NY...and it's not obvious at all to me where he liked playing better...And honestly, I'm not so sure "where a player liked most" should be taken into consideration for deciding his Hall of Fame cap. To me, since the Hall is meant to honor the greatest players, it should, therefore, by extension, have players wear the cap of where they played the greatest, and for Piazza, that's LA by a hair.

But he gets first choice. He gives his preference to the board of the hall of fame and they either approve or deny it. If he picked either LA or NY, I have no doubt in my mind that they would approve it.

I see this is a big deal to you. I agree if he picks a team they would 'probably' approve it, but I never say i'm sure with anything MLB or any of its committees do. I wouldn't be surprised if they overrid either choice he gave for various reasons.

Assuming that he's actually elected and that the board does the logical thing and accepts whatever he would prefer (and that he would have a preference himself),

Dodger, because they took a chance on him because he is a relative of Lasorda.
Plus he started his career there. And then of course there was the reception that he received when he first arrived in NY. I remember going to a game in Shea in '98 or '99 where the fans just wouldn't let up on him.

Anyway, blood is thicker than water and all of that, and LaSorda's bleeds Dodger Blue...
