And why would you replace Swisher or Konerko who are both hitting around .230 with a guy hitting .240, it doesn't seem to me that its an upgrade from what they already have.

Why? Thome is putting up better numbers than Griffey, Swisher, and Konerko. They probably go with a platoon at first with Konerko and Swisher and platoon Griffey in CF with Swisher depending on righty/lefty match upsGriffey's only other true option is DH, so I think we know which 38-year old should be on the bench.
