    Head Hunting....

I gotta say, I have no problem with a player being beaned, but the intentional head shots attempted in recent weeks is alarming and disgusting. Who do these sick fu(ks think they are that they can throw 90+ MPH at a players head?

A host on WEEI made an interesting point today. He asked if it was going to take Yukilis going out on a stretcher for MLB to do something about Joba? I'm highlighting that one as it was disturbingly coincidental but even AROD and Millar being thrown at today.

Hit the guy in the body.......I tell ya next time I see a player charge the mound after having his head clearly thrown at I hope brings a bat. I'd have no problem with him using it.

No I actually think they were. It was totally an intimidation thing and I agree with dickay that MLB should do something about it. I remember a few years back when Sosa got beaned in the head, shattered his helmet and gave him concussion. A man was killed pre-batting helmet days.

No excuse....no team should have a head hunter and yes even the Yanks should be penalized for this. I think if your "control" is so bad that you are close to a man's head then it should be an immediate ejection!

I completely agree... except for the part about bringing the bat. Two wrongs don't make a right, and all that. MLB needs to stomp a couple of pitchers for this, both at the major and minor league levels.

I know, and I say it out of frustration. The hitters are completely defenseless and frankly....it threatens their livelihood and their life. Complete arrogance. I don't think any of us can truly appreciate the feeling someone has after 95MPH heat just whizzed under their nose. I know i'd be more than irate because i'm pretty pi$$ed just thinking about it.

Yep, this is another of my pet-peaves. Good post. I don't have a problem with the "old school" mentality of sometimes throwing at a player, but far too often lately its not only been inside, its been HIGH and inside. Good points. I wonder if some more long term suspensions would help? You know, like the 50 game type for steroids. (Steroids is something like 50 isn't it?? For the first offense???)

What made me start thinking this issue was getting out of control was that minor league pitcher throwing at the fan during that big fight the other day... oh, but he was actually aiming for the opposing dugout...

Just kick him out of baseball, then suspend a couple of major league pitchers for a few games. That'll send a message real quick.

What was that dudes name anyway? I wanted to look him up and see if anything has officially happened since.

I dunno, but I did see he was released from jail. Pending trial I guess.

I believe it is 60. Accidents happen, don't get me wrong. But just as Yuke has to stand in there worried Joba may come high and in, Joba SHOULD have to be worried that if he makes another mistake it could be a significant penalty. 50 games certainly is, but is not too extreme if its ruled blatant headhunting. Tough if not impossible to prove, but it should be subjective.

As much as I like some of the things Selig has done, this is typical Selig. Totally REACTIVE. MLB will do nothing until, as I stated in the initial post, someone is taken off a major league field in a stretcher or worst.

Or pitchers could bat and Beckett could put Joba down on his fat ass
