    Manny A Marlin?

It really looks like this one might get done, though nothing is in stone.

If so, you could've given me 10 guesses on where Manny would go, and I still would not have guessed Florida.

Yeah I'm not spotting this rumor anywhere either.

I doubt Manny will be traded, but all indications are that the only realistic shot would be with the Marlins, with sources indicating that Boston will pick up a large portion of his salary and get a guy like Josh Willingham or Jeremy Hermida in return.

I've heard this from Peter Gammons on the radio today, as well as Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus, and I've read it at some other places as well, but can't remember exactly where.

Apparently a lot of people on these boards are really underestimating just how fed up Boston is with Manny. I really think he will be traded, though I would never have guessed Florida. Rumor has it that there are two other teams involved as well. Wouldn't surprise me if they included the Dodgers and/or Mets, but who knows.

And if he isn't traded, he's definitely not going to be with Boston next year.

EDIT: LOL, or maybe I'm overestimating how fed up Boston is with Manny. Should've added that one. I just really think the Red Sox are done with him. But, I might be overestimating.

Hermida would not be bad, but Manny is Manny.

Hermida would be a great trade for Boston.

The problem with Hermida is he's another lefty. I think if they do get rid of Manny, they would want a right hander to protect Ortiz in the lineup. Maybe get Hermida then turn around and trade him to the Pirates for Bay or something.

And Manny not being in the American League would be amazing for the Red Sox

But he does become a FA at the end of the season so we will probably see him back in the American League for 2009

    Re: Manny A Marlin?

There's an article on SI.com discussing Manny getting traded, and mentions the Marlins. Plus, Peter Gammons has mentioned Manny to the Marlins, so I guess just put the pieces together.

I couldn't see the Marlins trading a young prospect for a rental player in Manny... It'd be freaking ridiculous for the Marlins to do that. I could understand trading Josh Willingham for him, but to trade Hermida (who is a very good prospect) would just be DUMB.

Hermida's not really a prospect anymore , but a very good young player.

I don't know, it wouldn't surprise me if the Mets made a serious play at him in free agency. And I wouldn't rule out the Dodgers making a play, though with that bone head Andruw Jones contract taking up such a huge chunk of money it might limit them.

But don't the Mets get out from the Delgado contract after this year?? Or does he have another year left?? I guess if he has another year left the Mets' hands might be tied too.

Well, actually, now that I look at it, you're right. Though, Hermida has room to grow into an All-Star type player. I doubt that he will, but I could definitely see .290, .370, .480 stat line.

I believe the Mets have an option for Delgado @ 16M or something.

Hermida was a top prospect, but since making the big leagues, has been plagued by injury. I personally think he'll develop into an All Star player. He's got good power and solid plate discipline. Think a Bobby Abreu-type, with less speed.
