You're right. I should have looked at those insurmountable 4 and 5.5 game leads before making such a ludicris statement

    Re: Pudge to Yankees

When Pudge first came up, he was already a great defensive force who had obvious offensive potential. During the bulk of his career, he remained a fine defensive catcher and became far above average for the position as a hitter. The last few years, he'd been well below average as a hitter. though he is having a decent year with the bat this year. I'm not really sure how his defense stacks up now.

I'd still call it a great trade for the Yankees, because he's so much better than what they had there.

You've got to give me odds...picking 2 of 4 playoff teams is hard enough especially when i'm picking two that are in 3rd place.

    Thought you were confident

We can pick the other 3 playoff teams (assuming we both pick laa) & see who fares better

I hate when Yankee fans discount players who aren't Yankees. They're just biased towards there team and unable to see clearly, like this fellow I have just quoted.

This was a trade to shore up a hole for the NOW. They can't make trades where they trade away big guys for prospects, because they're always in contention, and teams in contention rarely, if ever, make such trades. The Yankees farm system IS very good.

Pudge is easily a better defensive catcher than Estrada.

    This year, Pudge is hitting .295/.338/.417 with a 101 OPS+. Estrada had a -1 OPS+ in 53 at bats, hitting .170/.200/.170. His OPS+'s the last 3 years - 74, 92, 78. Pudge's - 94, 97, 85.

Pudge is a slightly above average bat for a catcher, with above average defensive skills. Johnny Estrada is not good.

A rental for both teams really.

His age is irrelevent. He does not suck. And he's 36.

LOLOL. Rivera, closer of the Yankees, is mediocre. Farnsworth, now not a Yankee, is one of the top relievers in the game. WOW.

He's 36 and still swings an average stick. He's been ridiculously durable for a catcher. Barring a massive unforeseen collapse, he'll reach 3,000.

2000-2004 he was the top catcher in the game. Yeah, he's not the same as he was then, but he's still solid.

Yeah. See, this is why people don't take anything you say seriously when it comes to the Yankees. The team a player plays on does not change how good of a player he is. Please, try to be a little less biased.

Mauer has been better than Pudge since 2005, but than you're just ignoring the first half of the decade where Pudge was excellent.

LOL ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?!?! Man, you're a funny kid.

    Posada=average catcher
Posada has been a well above average hitter every year of his career since he became a regular except 1999. His career OPS+ is 124. Jason Varitek's career high is 122. Perhaps he's been average defensively, but overall, Posada has been a very above average catcher because he is a very good hitter.

This decade has not been great on catchers. Now the '70s and '90s, however, were loaded

    Somehow, I doubt that.
