He's not a superb strikeout pitcher, but does have a K/9 slightly less than 9, and he walks very few, and gives up few hits, career WHIP of 1.03.

    And I don't know if you've noticed, but at the age of 38, he's got a 1.25 ERA and a 0.67 WHIP, with a 53:4 K:BB ratio.

Saying that Mariano Rivera is anything less than an elite closer is absolutely foolish and just shows how incredibly biased you are against the Yankees that any opinions you hold about them or their players aren't even worth taking seriously.

All this does is confirm how biased you are against the Yankees, as I said.

Jesse Orosco? The guy was a fulltime closer for one year and he was a better closer than Mariano Rivera? lol

I don't know what standards you're using to decide who are good closers, but clearly, you're not even using the statistics you mentioned, like saves, strikeouts, ERA, and such. Mariano Rivera has the best ERA+ of any pitcher since 1901 with more than 900 innings pitched, by a LONGshot. ERA+ is not built to make Mariano Rivera look good. All it does is compare ERA to the league average, adjusted for home park. It's better than straight ERA, as if you go by straight ERA, the list is dominated by deadball era pitchers. Second place is Pedro Martinez at 157. Rivera is at 197. Lower the innings to 800, Rivera still comes out on top. 700, too. You have to go all the way down to a inning minimum of 200 before you get a pitcher with a higher career ERA+ than Rivera (Jonathan Papelbon).

And by believing in God and expressing that opinion, you're being utterly intolerant of any belief other than your own?

    Wrong

I added Papelbon in at 15th on the Best Closers List, and looking at Tom Henke's stats (311 SV, 2.67 ERA) I should really add him up there too.

Mariano Rivera - 466 SV, 2.30 ERA, much higher offensive era.

HGM, you did catch me on my Orosco mistake though. I meant Rick Aguilera (both played for the 86 Mets, I get confused sometimes)

You have to look deeper then saves, the current saves rule is flawed.

I invented a stat called Saves+, which measures how you save games in relation to the rest of the league...

    just kidding

Mariano Rivera's rookie year had bad stats, which means that he isn't fully consistent throughout his entire career.

I think he might be on teh roids
