You know, I have had several hundred black friends over the years, and have asked several of them about the "African American" term. Many of them find being called "African American" condescending at least, if not outright insulting.

As one of my best friends once said to me: "I'm not African! My family has been here for generations!"

Hispanic= Latino American
Asian= Asian American
Mentally Retarded= Mentally Challenged
Gay= Of Different Sexual Orientation

hate to break it to ya... but MANY black peple find it offensive to be called african american. My dad is black and in NO WAY came from africa. that is a jessie jackson/ al sharpton BS.
