Now I'm getting pissed.
Hamilton has like no self control. He talks about god on every frickin' interview. EVERY FRICKIN' INTERVIEW!

metsguy : I'm going to guess that you're lucky enough not to have seen someone close to you deal with serious drug problems. If you haven't actually seen it, it's hard to really describe just how big a part of their lives drugs ARE. ****, it IS their entire life. A true addict's entire existence consists of nothing more than scoring another hit...that's it. They will lie to you, steal from you, threaten you, they do not give a **** what they do, because the only thing on their mind is getting more.
Hamilton went through that. Religion is a big part of what pulled him out of it, so I can definitely understand why it is a HUGE part of his life...it probably SAVED his life. My friend, who went down the same road, has other things that helped him pull himself back up, and, believe me, he is probably never going to shut up about those for as long as he lives, and nor should he.
You want religious people to be respectful of your lack of belief, which is absolutely valid. However, there is a flipside to that, in that YOU need to show the same level of respect to the beliefs others have.

He's hardly hurting you by espousing his beliefs, anyway. I don't see what the problem is.
PS.: can we please keep the political/religious commentary in Ejections? That's what it's here for. Take an extra second and start a new thread, please.
You insist that there is something a machine cannot do. If you will tell me precisely what it is that a machine cannot do, then I can always make a machine which will do just that! -J. von Neumann
Yeah, sorry ohms.
It's OK, it's just a bother... that and I end up screwing something up eventually (like I just did) and having to fix my screw up (like I just did), and people get all snippy about "you're moving my posts! waaa...."

I'd basically reiterate exactly what Arctic Blast said.
What do you want Josh Hamilton to do? Why should he have to censor his beliefs? I don't get it at all. I despise organized religion, but clearly, without religion, Josh Hamilton very likely would not have overcome his addictions, and would not have made it to the MLB. He has every right in the world to thank God as much as he wants, whenever he wants, however he wants, so long as he doesn't force his beliefs upon other people, and thanking God in a speech is not doing that.
I don't care either. I see it all the time. MLB guys do the point to the big guy thing after a HR, NFL guys are just way over the top with it, but it's such a silly little thing, and they're not crusading for your soul or anything, so, so what really?
I dunno - if Josh Hamilton hadn't found God, he might've found some other, equally enlightening pursuit that brought him out of drugs. Salvation Army, Big Brother, video games, Kerouac's writing, true love, etc etc. A lot of people find God, but personally I just believe they didn't find something more interesting first. Thinking that they would be lost without God is kind of myopic though; if you don't believe in the big guy, for instance, than it only makes it more remarkable, in that the person dug themselves out of the hole, albeit with some spiritual guidance and what not. Spirituality was the catalyst or the theme in this case.
All personal belief aside, some players do the God thang every interview. In Boston, Bill Meuller used to get game-winning hits, and I remember the two grand slams game. Every interview, he would start off with 'I'm just out here to glorify God' and all that. It became annoying after a while, but that's what the mute button is for; he's out there hitting grand slams from both sides of the plate, he can thank his mom or spinach or pink bunnies from outer space, that's his right.
just b/c you don't agree with him doesn't mean he needs to be censored
I am jealous of Hamilton because he found god, I am still searching![]()
I know that with him talking about God, it keeps him safe, and to the end of his life if he stays sober. He will talk about it. I am totally fine about it. I would rather have somebody preaching about God than selling crack on the corner. Talking about God doesn't hurt anyone.
Exactly, The US was found on freedom of religion and religious tolerance.
Hamilton isn't going out of his way, people are coming to him and he if voicing his opinion and expierence, which he has every right to do.
Assuming he isn't calling people out for not believing then no one should call him out for believing.
Happy Holidays.
Remember when the arguement was that it wasn't fair to Jews and Muslims to have Christmas lights and greetings everywhere? "Christians" said, "okay, put up your stuff too". Then the complaining became, "well, I'm not Jewish or Muslim, I just don't like it".
People just suck.
Whether you go to church or not, the whole lights and decorations, and getting out of the house in the middle of winter to see all of the great stuff thing is just fun.
Good for Josh :-)
