This isn't dead. Just been busy the past couple days, and posts may be a little infrequent over the next few weeks because I'm probably going to be very, very busy these next few weeks.

Gonna try to do an update for this tonight, but if I can't tonight I'll definitely do one tomorrow (presuming nothing comes up).

    May 2001 Milwaukee Brewers Update

Center fielder Vernon Wells leads the team in batting average at .316

    Team Stats:
    Overall Record: 19-33
    April Record: 12-15
    Pythagorean Record: 18-34
Current Standings: Fifth place, 17 games back
    Team ERA: 5.81
    Team Batting Average: .254
    Runs Scored: 236
    Runs Allowed: 327

    Team Leaders:
    Wins: Jayson Durocher (4)
    ERA: Ben Sheets (4.17)
    Strikeouts: Ben Sheets (68)
Saves: Valerio de los Santos (9)
    Innings Pitched: Ben Sheets (77.2)

    Batting Average: Vernon Wells (.316)
    Home Runs: Jorge Posada (12)
    RBI's Vernon Wells (41)
    Steals: David Wright (6)
    Runs: Vernon Wells (37)

Recap: May was much kinder to the Brewers than April was. The team posted a near .500 record for the month, at 12-15, finished the month out of last place for the first time since early last season, and the pitching started to come around. Sheets lowered his ERA by nearly a full run and Vernon Wells really went on a tear and raised his batting average to .316 and now leads the team in average, RBI's, runs, and places second in homers and OBP. This was a really great month for the team and hopefully they'll build upon it and put things together next month.

    Pitching:

    Pitching Notes:
    • A.J. is still struggling with a 6.29 ERA. He is, however, coming off a seven inning effort in which he gave up just two earned runs, walked only one, and struck out five.
    • In each of Ben Sheets last three starts he has gone eight innings, allowed one earned run, struck out eight or more hitters, walked two, and allowed five hits or less.
    • Jayson Durocher has been solid for the Brewers, and has the second lowest ERA on the team at 4.68.
    • Al Reyes has been the team's best bullpen arm, posting a 2.89 ERA in 27 games.
    • After posting a solid 4.90 ERA last season, John Snyder has been much worse this season with an ERA over 8 to date. He also has a K:BB ratio of nearly 1:1 and a frighteningly high BAA of .342.

    Batting:

    Batting Notes:
    • The offense has actually been relatively decent. And by that I mean relative to how it performed the first month of the season.
    • Vernon Wells had a great month, including a string of 10+ games where he hit at above a .500 clip. He finishes the month with a season line of .316/.368/.537 and leads the team in RBI's (41), batting average (.316), and runs (37), and has arguably been the teams best hitter, alongside Posada.
    • Speaking of Posada, he has been worth every penny the team spent on him this offseason. He currently sports an astounding line of .301/.421/.596, giving us our only hitter with an OPS above 1.000, and leads the team in homers, OBP, and slugging.
    • Carlos Beltran has continued to flounder with a line of .230/.319/.412, whereas the man traded for him, Geoff Jenkins, is an early favorite for AL MVP, despite playing for a bad team, and is hitting .345/.429/.603.
    • Following being sent down after the acquisition of Bill Mueller and called back up when he was injured, David Wright is hitting .317/.378/.488, and raised (yes, raised) his season line to .265/.317/.391. Hes going to keep his job unless he proves that he shouldn't be starting (again).
    • The team's lone other notable hitter, Ronnie Belliard, is hitting .282/.360/.426 from the leadoff slot.

It was for a while, I got super, super busy and had to stop, but I'm going to bring it back, hopefully tonight. Right now I'm running some sims for the mogul league I'm in, but after that I'm gonna do the May '01 League update.

Or not. My computer's been running like crap again lately (don't know what it is with me and computer, but I always manage to screw 'em up), so I had to restore it to factory settings, and I lost all my mogul files, so I can't bring this back as I had intended to.

I probably won't be starting another one any time soon, but I'm sure I'll be back eventually.
