    Damon calls out teammates

After Thursday's embarrassing loss to the Boston Red Sox, Johnny Damon called out his teammates. He admitted that the New York Yankees have been a disappointment this season and they are running out of time to turn their season around.

"We're not playing up to our expectations. That's never good," Damon said after the Yankees emerged from the 30-minute team meeting that followed their 7-0 loss to Boston. "The Steinbrenners spent $200 million on us and we haven't shown what we're made of. I know this is one game and we have 75 games or so left, but we better do something soon. July 31 comes sooner than you know it, and I know a lot of guys here don't want to go to another team or even be in that conversation. This is a team that's built to win, to get to the playoffs and to win a championship. By July 31, we better be in a good spot. We're **** lucky to put on these pinstripes. We definitely need to set a better example of what putting on these pinstripes means."

Damon also said that the Yankees' struggles this year have been embarrassing.

"When you put the pinstripes on, there's a lot of pride that goes with it," Damon said when asked about the Yankees' lineup, which went back to struggling a night after scoring 18 runs against the Texas Rangers. "There's 55,000 fans out there. There are many media outlets that are going to talk about, 'How come the Yankees aren't scoring?' It's embarrassing."

Damon, who is in his third season with the Yankees after being one of the vocal leaders of the Red Sox's first championship team in 86 years, pointedly praised his former team on how it manufactured runs and played "team baseball."

I loved that he said there is "pride" when putting on the pinstripes. Hey Judas, there was pride putting the "B" cap on too. All he ever cared about was money. He never resigned with the same team in his life. He has no clue what pride or loyalty is.

Sometimes I hate fans. Really, I think its hilarious Damon is calling out the Yankees, but to call him a Judas mercenary for taking more money???? Substantially more money in a longer contract no less????

Unless you've been in those shoes, its not fair to question. And if you were in those shoes I'd wager my meager salary that you'd take the higher longer one every day of the week.

I'm a Sox fan. I know however that if the Sox wanted him all they had to do was pony up another year....they knew that too and chose not to. In the end, it was a good deal for the Sox not overpaying for him. So why b!tch???

When you have people associated with the Yankees, whether it be players, owners, or fans, b*tching every single day about how they play and other ****....you get that reputation. Just STFU and play baseball..acting like you are entitled to win the division every year and all the other **** they talk about....just STFU.

While the comparisons a bit over the top, Damon, while in Boston, said that he wanted to stay with the Sox and that he's "never, ever" even consider playing for the Yankees.

So yeah he's a mercenary because when push came to shove he he chose the 2M extra a year to play for the Yankees.

word....and what is 2 million more for a guy who has made millions already? It's like getting an extra .50 an hour....really not too much of a difference.
