Anyway, Gretzky seems to finally be figuring out the coaching thing, so I guess there's a chance we'll never know how he'd do in a booth.

Oh, and I am now bound and determined to nickname a hockey player 'Goonie'.
AB, I could have written your first paragraph, myself. word for word...I was beginning to think that I was the only guy left in Canada, who was embarrassed by Don Cherry. I wish that he'd stuck to coaching...he was good at that.

Oh, I think that there's every chance that Gretsky could, ultimately get around to commentary...wouldn't it be luvverly if he replaced Cherry? ( who has, himself, gone the route of player/coach/colour guy).

You have an editable hockey game, too?

I can't resist commenting on the irony of that "Great Canadian Competition" - it was actually won by a Scot! (Tommy Douglas)...how typically Canadian...

Yeah, I had the same reaction to Douglas' win...certainly a HUGE figure in Canadian history, but not really Canadian.

Nope, no hockey game. I was a player of earlier versions of Eastside Hockey Manager, but there's some issues with the newest version's salary cap, and it appears the series might be dead, which is too bad. I'll just anoint someone 'Goonie'.

I don't really know what to call Cherry's role. I mean, he's not play by play, he's not REALLY a color guy, since he only has the one segment between periods. I GUESS he'd be an analyst...and, geez, how depressing is THAT?!

Carter, though...I dunno. I remember the rumor about Carter - his nickname with his teammates was "I-Me", after his two favorite words...

    hehe

personally i think your right and that its borne out right here ...

[I]Carter balked when he was offered the manager’s job with the Mets’ Class AA club in Binghamton, N.Y. He said he had already shown the Mets he could manage and did not want to stray far from his home near Palm Beach, Fla., without assurances he was “their guy.”

When that assurance did not come, he said no.

How do you not take a promotion if you want to manage in the major leagues?” Minaya said. “We gave him an opportunity and we offered him more money and a more high-profile job and he turned it down. What more could we do?”

o golly gee gary wont you PLEEEEEEASE go to Binghamton?
after all, you are THE greatest superest bestest guy of all time.
how could we go on without you o geee
