that would probably only happen if it were conditional with an extension, no?

I think the Yanks will get him, either via trade during the season or FA afterwards

Now, I believe that the question is whether the Yankees would trade any combinatioin of the 3. I could see a trade of Kennedy, Tabata, and a lower level prospect, but that is about it. I've also heard rumors that Cano could be a centerpiece of a deal for Sabathia, though I would not make that trade either. I say, if you can get Sabathia for Kennedy, Tabata, and a couple of lower level prospects than do it; but if you have to give up anything more, than I wouldn't do it.
If you think Tabata, Kennedy, and a lower level prospect will get Sabathia you're nuts. If they were to trade him they'd be asking for, and justifiably so, grade A prospects. They could get a package centered around Clayton Kershaw and/or Matt Kemp and/or Chad Billingsley from the Dodgers, Nick Adenhart from the Angels, Masterson from the Red Sox (though I don't think they'll go after him). The Yankees would have to give up Hughes and a couple more really, really good prospects, and the Yankees have become way too nostalgic about their prospects to do that. And they won't give up Hughes and more for Sabathia if they weren't willing to do it for the best pitcher on the planet, Johan Santana, in the off season.

Cleveland said they won't grant a window to any team to negotiate an extension should they decide to trade him and come up with a palatable offer. Making it further unlikely that he gets traded.

I don't think it'd take THAT much. That'd what the price would be if it came in the off-season....but considering the trade (if any happens, which I doubt) will be for a two month rental, no thinking team would give up top-10 prospects like Kershaw...

Thats what I've read the Indians are asking for on the internet. One way or the other, I think they're gonna want to trade him to the NL if they do indeed decide to trade him.

I say he stays, but if he does go, he goes to LA.

I hope you're wrong. C.C.'s a great pitcher, but i think it'll take too much to get him. We need to hold on to Kershaw, Kemp, Meloan, etc...

LaRoche and Ethier COULD be expendable...but not for a half a year of a pitcher when a hitter is what we need.

There is talk now that the Sox are interested, even though he may not be necessary

Only because the Yankees are. Anyone the Yankees are interested in, the Red Sox also are, and vice versa.

Depends WHO is in/out of the playoff picture in 4 weeks time (& that INCLUDES the Indians.)

Sabathia has always "liked" Cleveland so there is a MAJOR chance he would re up their BUT as always it is the "rats" (read Agents) who mostly influence player's choice with promises of El Dorado & Boras-like contracts...........Shame really as in my youth a team had a core group of players who MADE that team WHY I liked them* - now in all sports (or nearly) players' are mercenaries seeking the highest $

    * guys who stayed with a club for 5/6/10 years!

IMO, he will be in Cleveland for the remainder of the season, then get to Free Agency. The Yankees will throw a metric s***-ton of money at him, and he'll be wearing #52 in pinstripes in 2009.

Unless, of course, Yu Darvish reneges on his promise to stay in Japan, then all bets are off.

Lots of teams WILL throw $$ at him from Toronto (if A.J. opts out) to Baltimore (who need an Ace even in rebuild though a certain 1B in Atlanta is their priority

The Indians will ONLY deal him if they are 10+ out by deadline as the Central IS still very much open & Sabathia is the team's rock,IMO

I hope the Cubs, but I don't think they have any more cash to spend on that type of pitcher, due to a the year before last year with Lilly, Marquis, Soriano and then again this year with Fukudome. that's a lot of money.
