What is now often called "The Confederate Flag" or "The Confederate Battle Flag" (actually a combination of the Battle Flag's colors with the Second Navy Jack's design), despite its never having historically represented the CSA as a nation, has become a widely recognized symbol of the South. It is also called the "rebel" or "Dixie" flag, and is often incorrectly referred to as the "Stars and Bars" (the actual "Stars and Bars" is the First National Flag, which used an entirely different design).

In the early- to mid-20th century the Confederate flag enjoyed renewed popularity. During World War II some U.S. military units with Southern nicknames, or made up largely of Southerners, made the flag their unofficial emblem. Some soldiers carried Confederate flags into battle.

In all seriousness...if you aren't exaggerating, uhhh...there's something wrong with you, man.

Advocating the death of people that use the Confederate flag is just as bad as people advocating the death of a person because of their race.

But flying the Confederate flag is like wearing a Nazi armband(advocating for a country/almost-country that endorsed racism)

Do you honestly fail to comprehend the difference between slavery and mass murder?

Slavery was evil, I don't disagree. But to place it on the same level with the murder of close to 10 million people...oh my God...

First of all EVERY NATION in the world participated in slavery....eventually most of the civilized world banned it. However slavery happened under the US flag! Should we ban the US flag? The confederate battle flag was not an endorsement of slavery but the symbol of the confederacy which actually formed to fight for state's rights....the state's right to choose it's own laws and governance on issues....so let's look at history accurately!

The US flag (since slavery happened before the Civil War and the 5 year period of the confederate flag) is not the same as wearing a Nazi armband. For that matter neither is the confederate flag. The armband was worn by those who sought to exterminate an entire race. At most the US and Confederate Flag was used by those who sought to subjugate and entire race.

This thread has moved fat and wide from it's original thoughts on Imus and his words on the air. However I remember a black friend who was always talking about getting in trouble for DWB....Driving While Black. He could say that cops stopped him for that reason. Is what Imus said any different? I think the PC police are sometimes just nuts! I'm sorry...slightly skewed in their viewpoint in regards to the issue of racism.

Very different situations, LEARN YOUR HISTORY! Most civilized countries used to do slavery, and you are not saying their flags should be banned!
