    Re: Randolph fired

Firing Willie sure seems to have made a major impact on this Muts team.

I was actually quietly rooting for the Muts when Randolph was the manager, hoping to see a nice subway series. Oh well, looks like I will get a 2nd favorite team wherever Randolph goes, unless he comes to be the Yankees bench coach or something (which would rock!).

Ok, I want to understand just how you know that Willie Randolph has "a good baseball mind". So, koolzach1, please explain the following quote, at your convenience.

"Umm... Not sure I ever mentioned that it does....

I said that Willie is a good baseball mind, and knows the game.

Look at his track record... it proves everything I am saying."

Randolph is a good baseball mind SIMPLY because he was one of the 30 MLB managers' - no single team will ruin a franchise with a sub quality manager. What most fans forget is :
    1) Managers dont play IT IS the players' who underperform &
    2) He does NOTset up the team (unlike European based sports where the Manager is simultaneously the GM) & has to play with the "cards dealt him"

If anyone is to blame for the Mets' poor start to the season it is Minaya & his OFF SEASON trades & FA signings. He dealt away a young potential star in Milledge for Church & Schneider (look at the Mets OF today you will understand What I mean),he let Lo Duca walk,he extended "crutches' Alou/Castillo,he dealt his minors for Santana,he signed Pedro & Orlando KNOWING their medical history,he dealt for Delgado etc etc

All these moves, made LAST year & previously, were all glitzy (almost Yankee-like in their Media value) but also completely destroyed the Mets' minor league system & has culminated in the Mets' being the "NL Yankees" a power-old team who have dominant potential but also become ordinary when 2 or 3 of their starters are DL-ed.

Look at their ages & only Wright & Reyes are under 30....

he is NOT their best player wright is
Wright is having a down year compared to his past numbers, so far Reyes is having bigger impact on offensive than Wright.

If I had to pick one for my team I would take Wright.

Muts and Mets just about the same thing. I believe that Wright's long term prospects are sky high and I love the way he plays they game.

honestly and i told my buddy jon who is a HUGE metz fan.
Wright looks to me to be the next chipper jones. 30+ HR a year with .300 - .310 AVG and good defense.

    Re: Randolph fired

So, because he's a baseball manager, that qualifies him as having a "good baseball mind"? Is that it? Then, if all managers have "good baseball minds" (and they do NOT--see Maury Wills, for example), why even say it, if it is so obvious? Besides, I asked koolzach1 to explain his statement. I just cant wait to hear it.

Probably all true, Uber. Nonetheless, I still want to know how Randolph's "track record" proves.... anything.

Nearly anybody capable of landing a managerial job in baseball will do fine if you give him a decent team. However, even with a bad team, McLaren made some really stupid moves. Miguel Cairo has no business being a starting first basemen. Willie Bloomquist has no business pushing Ichiro Suzuki to right field. I'm sure Mariners fans could provide even more examples.

    Re: Randolph fired

It certainly is true that the players make the team, for the most part. I dont know if Randolph was a good manager or not... others claim to know, and I would like to know why they say that.

I tend to believe there are managers, and bad managers. "Managers", meaning that they are decent baseball men, and they basically know how to organize the talent they have on their team. Other than that, I dont see how managers make much difference over the course of the season.

"Bad managers", to me, exist. They are not capable of managing men. They make such poor decisions that they do hurt their teams chances over the long haul. Again, I cite Maury Wills as an outstanding example of this. I do not think there are very many bad managers at the major league level. They do exist though, IMO.
