Well, first day without Bavasi, and McLaren moves Ichiro to right field to play Bloomquist in center...even though Ichiro is a gold-glove caliber center fielder and hsi glove is much more valuable up the middle....and has Johjima taking grounders at first base.

    Fantastic!

We'll take him, if you take Igawa, Pavano, and Posada in 2/3 years. We'll also throw in Chase Wright, but you have to throw in Timlin and Wakefield.

Why get rid of Willie? He's cheap, plays 7 positions, and is a fan favorite. We might be stuck with Vidro for one more year if he gets to a certain amount of PA's. Knowing McLaren, he probably will. I dont see why Vidro is in the middle of the lineup? He should be at the bottom three. How many years does Washburn have till his contract is up?

Its not like the farm can get any worse. Bavasi traded them all to Baltimore. Watch in five years the Orioles in first place with all ex-Mariners.

There is still that Saeban guy in San Fransisco. You never know what would happen.

Washburn has one more year left for 2009 but he is truly terrible right now and has been for the duration of his contract. Just buy him out and replace him with someone much cheaper.

And the reason Willie has to go is to eliminate the Mariners' manger's fetish with him. He has received far too many ABs in the past, although I will say that this year the Mariners have done a good job of limiting his plate appearances, probably because of his terrible production (.189/.306/.189). And the whole fan favorite bit is precisely why Bavasi and the current management failed the past several years. I think fans want a winning ballclub more than seeing Willie the local hero get his ABs.

And yes, let's all pray that Vidro doesn't get enough ABs for his option to vest. Please, please, please.

If Willie just ran and played some defense, I would be happy. I would agree that he is getting too many at bats. Half the team sucks so its not like he is hurting the team right now though.

He's been overpaid, but he hasn't been terrible for the duration of his contract. He's been about a league-average pitcher. This year, he's terrible.

Lugo may not be too young. He probably lied about his age and is really 48, which is why he cant field

In related news, it appears that they've held discussions and are strongly considering releasing Richie Sexson!

I'm assuming Jose Vidro and Miguel Cairo come next? We'll see if the new interim GM is really serious about recognizing sunk costs.

Apparently Clement will handle the majority of the catching load from here on out. And since Johjima has been getting reps at first base the past few days, it looks like Kenji will be the first baseman on the days he doesn't catch.
