He really has to drop Football Mogul or BBM will fall behind.

I got OOTP9 today and it was STUNNING. Just simply STUNNING.

While I was playing it I realized that there is no way in he-ll that BBM can keep up with OOTP more than a few more years, and that is really a shame for all of us.

Come on, Clay, we don't want Sports Interactive to monopolize the baseball online text sim business. Drop FBM and work full-time on BBM. Maybe even hire a few employees or interns while you're at it.

OOTP was light years ahead of BM until BM2k7 came along. BM2k7 and 2k8 went ahead of OOTP until now... I haven't played OOTP9 yet, but I am downloading it.

Markus has really upgraded his product but still OOTP retains its major faults - ie slow & millions of data (which is superfluous IMO) but still A HE-LL of a game!

Funnily what BM users WANT for BMXX is in OOTP but at a cost of speed* & complexity - if anything to be successful, OOTP is a REAL life "Sports job" whereas BM is a playable game.

But Clay should download a version just to "pick" some ideas (I love their full Minors & their scouting system - unlike BM Draft is a real "**** shot" after top 15 picks - like IRL!)

    * You need an up to date Computer otherwise it is a "snail" speed gaming experience (bit like ADSL & Dial UP Internet if you see what i mean)

I am playing OOTP 9 now, and it is just flat-out brilliant. I started a 2008 major league game, and from the built-in addons center I had user-created real logos and player pictures downloaded and installed within a couple of minutes. I have now spent 4 hours playing my league, and the AI is just stunningly good! I cannot say how happy I am with this product. If you like baseball, you owe it to yourself to try it out, even if you're a BM hardcore fan.

    Best,
    Martin

I know Bill personally and he is a more than fair and objective reviewer. I think the review was spot on. The game is addicitive to say the least, but there are a lot of things that need to be worked on. Overall I think that it might deserve a little better than passable, but still nothing more than a 7.5 for overall quality.

The more that I keep reading it seems that everyone wants this game to be like OOTP, but that isn't what it is meant to be. It's a very hard thing to conceptualize but it is what it is I guess.

This weekend, I'll be 'cracking open' OOTP 9 for a good play session, feel everything out. I've briefly messed around with it, but haven't had any time to really play!

Actually, the review makes a huge error based on the screen shot of the contract negotiations page. (second page of the review) The review quote beneath the screen shot makes a sarcastic remark.

`So you don't like being the starting first baseman, but want to play regularly. Right.'

But the written description of the players attitude is saying that Jeff Baker doesn't like being the starting first baseman for the Boston Red Sox, but that he could play regularly on another team. In other words, Jeff Baker isn't happy playing for the Boston Red Sox, but is a good enough player to start for another team.

The sarcastic remark underneath the screen shot is a complete mis-interpretation of the players descriptive attitude!

How can you put down the AI when you can't even read!

I hate when reviewers start being wise guys with no basis in fact, in an attempt to be extra mean to a game.

Plus the depth chart screen is one of the coolest additions to BM2009, even if the stacks are not a mirror image of your lineups, it still lets you see at a glance your coverage of each position, along with the players ratings. A very useful screen for getting an overview of potential trades and transactions. I'm glad they weren't afraid to borrow from Pure Sim, which has been using that format for some time now.

I think you're maybe being a little too picky, Starman. You're reading a little too much in to one throwaway sarcasm line under a pic.

The new ootp9 is excellent, but it's a different style baseball game than BM 09.

I've been playing ootp9 - a fictional MLB setup - but I still play BM almost everyday as well.
