    Fairy Tale?

The New York Yankees drafted SP - Gerrit Cole in the 1st round of the 2008 MLB draft.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Cole went 8-2 with a 0.47 ERA as a senior at Orange Lutheran High School in Orange, Calif., in 2008, striking out 121 batters in 75.0 innings pitched with 13 runs allowed (five earned) and 18 walks. He was named the Trinity League's Pitcher of the Year as well the 2008 Co-Orange Lutheran Male Athlete of the Year. The right-hander was named a 2008 Rawlings Preseason All-American and was selected to the AFLAC All-American team as a senior.

Garrit Cole has been a huge Yankees fan his whole life, and now is living his dream... Playing for the Yankees.

There have been rumors concerning Gerrit Cole possibly going to college, but I think this will have to be shot down now that he will be playing for this favorite team.

... And I thought this stuff only happened in the movies.

This just in from ESPN: Garrit Cole has just been announced as the starting pitcher for the Yankees this Sunday (tomorrow). After minutes and minutes of Steinbrenner deliberation, it has been determined that Cole is the greatest pitcher they have available.

Steinbrenner also said that, if Cole does well Sunday, they will start him again on Tuesday. Hank was quoted as saying that he is not concerned with possible overuse, as Cole will be on a 150 pitch limit per day.

LOL. This kind of stuff happens a lot more than you would probably think. There are over 1,000 players drafted every year and more than just one or two of them end up getting drafted by their boyhood team. Plus I really don't think 18 and 19 year olds care where and when they get drafted, simply getting drafted means they realized a dream. Not to mention Gerrit is a long way from playing in the Bronx and is far from guaranteed to do so.

Yeah, but considering that Garrit throws up to 98 MPH, and was a top prospect in the draft, and was drafted in the 1st round by the Yankees... This is a little different. I mean, the kid has been a Yankees fan his whole life, and he ends up getting drafted by the New York Yankees. I seriously doubt that he goes to college now

It's also the fact that he was at the 2001 WS, and the fact that I am a Yankees fan

I doubt he would've gone to college anyways. Unless the players are extremely ingrained in their belief of getting an education and going to college or are simply asking for a load of money to sign (which clearly isn't an issue here) they'll usually just sign and play pro-ball.

I think once these young guys realize that they have the potential and ability to play professional baseball and scouts start showing up saying they have Major League stuff they aren't so much fans of one team because they just want to play baseball at the highest level they can and make it to the majors, and by being a fan of one team and allowing that to govern whether or not you sign with a team simply because you're not a fan of the team, or what not, gets in the way of making it where you want to make it.

Craig Hansen grew up in New York and grew up a Yankees fan and hes playing for the Red Sox now.
