well of course, but the escalating salary may make them more likely to trade him if they perceived his value to have peaked.

Well, Tex isn't twice the player Hunter is; I did reach a little bit there, but he hits for a lot more average, a lot more homers, plays GG defense (like Hunter), has a WAY better OPS, OBP, etc... Pretty much does everything much better than Hunter.

If Cleveland feels they do not have a shot at the pennant they will try to trade Sabathia at the deadline, and they would probably grant a negotiating window for a contract extension in order to increase their trade haul. That team might or might not be the Yankers, but probably only if they are willing to make the kind of trade they were not willing to make last year for Santana. I have heard that the Indians are trying to engage the Dodgers in talks for Sabathia, but I don't know how far that will go. I think LA may actually be looking to move some pitching soon themselves; either Lowe or Penny may end up on the trading block in July.

Oh yes, we do look forward to next season; we're probably either as good or better than the Red Sox are this year, and next year with the likes of Mark Teixera (possibly), C.C. Sabathia (possibly) Brett Gardner, Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy, Mark Melancon, Brent Cox, Juan Miranda, Humberto Sanchez, amongst others... we should be excited that we're gonna win the WS in 2010.

I'm not sure why Yankee fans are giving up so soon. They were worse at this time last year...

They're getting too used to losing......and the funniest part about it is the hope they have for next year. Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy HAHAHAHAHAH. Next their going to try and sell us that Humberto Sanchez isn't the most overrated prospect in yankeetown since........well Hughes and Kennedy lmfao.

Sabathia SCREAMS of Barry Zito so I hope the Yanks do land his inconsistent arse. Sure, he's not on as steep a decline (cliff) Zito was in his last year or two with Oakland and current couple seasons with SF, but I for one would not want to touch Sabathia for the amount of coin he'll demand. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SIGN HIM STEINBRENNAR!!! Tex is a good player.......but not worth the coin he'll demand either and face it, it's not the offense where the problems lie so I truly hope you do get him.

Sabathia hasn't had any sort of decline...He's coming off a Cy Young season. This year, he had 4 bad starts, Since then, he has a 2.01 ERA on 58.1 innings with a 60:11 K:BB ratio. Sabathia's statistics have been on the RISE leading up to this year, and by the end of this year, he's going to have good numbers as well. 4 bad starts isn't a decline, or a sign of one.

I wouldn't give 6-7 years to him, as he's a hefty dude, so there's an inherent health risk in that, I think, but Sabathia is FAR FAR FAR from Barry Zito, whose stats had been declining for a few years before he hit free agency.

Sabathia is no prize. I know he's pitching better now, but he blew up in the playoffs last year, and prior to last year he was OK at best and inconsistent/awful at worse. Plus he's known to pack on a pound or two.....I know darn well he's approaching an age where that catches up with you.

I'm on the record......he will be a major bust during his next contract. God forbid he stay healthy this year because someone (probably the yanks) will pay 20 mil or so for the next 6 years plus and be burned big time. So stat god.......you willing to go on record against that?? If not, then why argue.....because those who watch the game and watch Sabathia want no part of his next contract. He may be a servicable pitcher for a bit, but clearly nowheres near the ace money he'll be demanding.

Problem is, there is always a couple teams willing to open the vault and make a dumb signing........go for it Yanks!

I agree signing a pitcher like that can be risky, but wieght didnt kill of David wells too much.
As far as last year, Yes Sabathia didnt pitch all that great but he went 5 IP and gave up 3 runs to yankees and left with a 6 run lead, game six he pitched 6 IP and gave up 4 runs, and really only got shelled in game one V boston. But that could have had something to do that he had pitch. 250 innings almost 20% more than he had ever pitched in a season before.

Ya know... I am not sure either. I definitely haven't gave up on them. I still think they will take the division this year.

And this is why you're considered a troll on the espn message boards.

Come on, ya biased Sawx fan... Getting used to losing? Yeah... winning 95 games consistently certainly is losing. At least we'll never ever be lovable LOSERS. Phil Hughes is still the real deal, and I tend to believe that Ian Kennedy will be fine... what about Clay Buchholz and his 5.53 ERA; I'd say he is the one that is overrated.

Sabathia screams Barry Zito huh? I don't think so... Zito has been declining at a MAJOR rate even since his Cy Young year. Sabathia maybe a little fat, but so was Wells, so is Schilling, so is Clemens, and it didn't seem to slow them down from having a terrific career. C.C. has more + pitches, way more velocity, and has more of a track record than Zito has ever had.

Also, Josh Beckett has like a 4.30 ERA... I guess he is definitely on a decline also.

Haha, C.C. is no prize? Ok, guess an ACE is not considered a prize. Sure, he has struggled in the post season, but it's not like he has had a lot of chances. C.C. is only 27 years old, and has only went over 200 innings like 2 times. I could see him pitching great well into his early 30's, and pitching good into his mid 30's.

Haha, talk about DUMB signings... Fan of a team that signed Lugo, and Drew.
