Was he that bad of a defender to offset his offense? By all accounts, Rogers Hornsby was a terrible defender, but that shouldn't keep somebody out of the Hall of Fame, unless their defense was SO bad that it offset their offense, and most players that play enough to even qualify for the Hall of Fame don't have defense that was THAT bad, as players who suck that much at defense either a) change positions, b) become a DH, or c) just don't make it.

Ok, I will give you that. If you take Kent and put him next to other 2b in the HOL, he will stack up. Also, I gotta give him a kind of Ripkenesk salute. That man played full out everywhere he went. He could have been moved to 1b like every other power hitter these days (Pujols and now Cabrera), but stuck with it. Joe Morgan doesnt want him because he is top 3 of all time.

So, what's the argument against him then?

Joe Morgan doesnt want him because he is top 3 of all time.
Hm? What do you mean by this?

Kent is clean and he hates Bonds , so YES. Most other players won't be voted in since they did some type of drugs. The choices will be so depleted that Kent will beat out the Cubs ground crew chief. But I thought i saw that grounds crew chief smoking something the other day?

Sorry about the reference. Joe Morgan, the cool calm voice of ESPN baseball, said recently during a game that he didnt think Kent would make the HOF. Jon Miller argued him into it after awhile though. Morgan held out though so you know that he dont like it. That is all. Remember, Joe is probably one of the best 2b ever. I was just saying he doesn't want the competition.

That would be silly, and incredibly selfish, of Joe. Whether or not Kent makes the Hall of Fame is irrelevent to where Kent ranks among second basemen all-time. It's quite blindingly obvious that Kent is far from Morgan's level.

Kent's an average to slightly below average defender, with below average speed, and an above average bat. Why is "one-dimensional" considered an insult, when that one-dimension is the most valuable dimension there is for a position player? I never understood that. Like those people that say McGwire doesn't belong in the HOF, regardless of steroids, because he was "one-dimensional."

I'd say that Kent is probably one of the top 20 secondbasemen of all-time and maybe even the top 10 (barely) He should get in.
