And I'm not. I'm using it to evaluate his past performance - he's been a league average pitcher. His peripheral stats (which are good for evaluating future performance) also indicate a league average pitcher. Nothing indicates that he's done being a league average pitcher.
So, what exactly are you using to claim that Jarrod Washburn, a league average pitcher for multiple years now, all of a sudden sucks?
ERA+, like so very many stats, is used to show what a player has accomplished in the past. Every stat in baseball does not have to be an indicator of expected future performance, and most are not.
Well, not only is his fastball slow, (generally 85-86 MPH) but it doesn't move at all. Anyways, I'll just leave you this from Dave on his post on USSM today:
"And, really, Jarrod Washburn is a lousy pitcher. Those who think otherwise don’t understand how to evaluate pitching talent."
That's such a convincing argument.
Did you know that Jarrod Washburn's peripheral stats are actually better so far in 2008 than they've been? He's been the victim of a high BABIP and high HR/FB rate.
Whatever. As an M's fan who watches every game, I know he's terrible.![]()
He sucked last year, too. Okay, bye!
