Why am I hesitating upgrading to BM09?

I want 16 batters and 9 pitchers or 14 batters and 11 pitchers on my roster. If I'm doing a historical replay, say 1901, the Boston Braves had 5 pitchers on their staff. I had hoped this would have been upgraded in 9.

This has lead me to demo OOTP8. I love the extensive stats (number nutz) but the game is not easy. Trying to navigate around in all that is very difficult, especially with a help system that isn't very helpful. Did I read the 538 page manual? No, (I'm number nutz, not just nuts) I don't consider that fun. That's the thing about BM... IT'S FUN.

    High Heat 2002: Crash
High Heat 2003: Does this PbP sound even know what's happening in the game?
High Heat 2004: Who wants a console game on PC
Rights to High Heat bought by Microsoft Bye, Bye!

I mention these games because even they allowed for different quantity batter/pitcher rosters. Also liked the minor leagues. Usless for historical replays or good stat output.

This is not meant to be a complaint. I love BM08 but I'd play the game more if and when this upgrade happens.

I agree, and we're far from the only people who want this feature. Clay wants to do it as well, and has been saying so for years. It's just one of those things that keeps getting passed by due to more critical fixes and/or other features.

Alright, I want to make sure I understand this:

You have 08. (Inferred from 'upgrade')
You are unsure about getting 09 because you can't customize how many batters/pitchers you may have on roster.

So...you obviously liked 08, and you don't want 09 - which is much the same game interface - because of this one little thing? Hm.

Well....I will say 11.11/13 is far superior to 10.31/10.34. You're missing out.

Actually I will end up getting 9 because as I say it's fun. It's not a small thing. It's a regular roster adjustment that can be made in any other baseball sim. As an example let's take a look at the Red Sox. Great starting rotation that's going deep into the game. If they put in a reliever (except Papalbon) the game goes to h311. When they can't get any runs (2 runs in 27 innings) I'd like to have an extra batter than a reliever (Lopez, Delcarmen) that folds under pressure.

Twenty-five dollars (or thirty) seems like a small price to pay for the hours of entertainment you get from the game.

    1) It's not $25.00 if you want a CD.
    2) BM08 is enjoyable. Even if I didn't get 9 I'd still continue to play 8.
It's just a question of what's considered an important enough upgrade to spend $40 on, or wait another year. I know nothing about programming, nor want to and if the coding of such a change risked the stabily of the game I'll wait for it. I purchased the first release of BM, I think it was by Miller Associates and am pleased at how this game has matured. I'm just kinda surprised that this area hasn't been addressed and would like to see it before I expire.

I never understood this, so I'm curious. What's the appeal in wanting the CD when you can download the game for less money and then just make your own CD?

Being born in a time when a computer was know as an abacus I guess that I'm still afraid a download won't work. I did download Action PC Baseball but also paid the optional $10 for the CD to be mailed to me (doing the same for OOTP). I know that I bought BM08 for $30 but I thought I saw that 9 would be $40 off the shelf.
My CD writer can no longer be trusted to make a good copy after copying 18,000+ songs from my CD collection. I'd rather use the CD to put the game on one of the other computers that I keep off internet connection (The abacus never got a virus).

Thumbs up Re: Why am I hesitating upgrading to BM09?

Spending more money just to have a cd and box it comes in doesn't make sense to me but to some it could I guess. As far as BM09 over BM08 it's a no doubter, BM09 has alot of things that make it differ from BM08. Like a different look, the depth chart, and the play is way better.

The schedule......thats the biggest improvement in BM09, as far as I'm concerned. The schedule still isnt great, but it isnt terrible like it was in the past.
