    2009 version...

    Hi guys,
Ive been playing Baseball Mogul 2007 for a good while. Ive skipped the 2008 version because, reading the forums, I found that too many bugs would plagued my experience.
What about 2009? Seems like there is already tons of bugs...

I can understand some odd stat reporting bug, and frankly I don't care, but I want to be able to play without big concerns...

So, for those who already have the game, is it worth it right now?
    Thank you

There's no real major problems. You need to have experience with the game and look for the bugs to really see them, anymore.

    "Anymore"? Have there been patches?

Roster problems aren't bugs, but there are a whole bunch of them in BM09. There's even a global problem with low health scores for all the minor leaguers who don't have major league experience. And strange stuff with defense ratings (can be fixed by going into the player editor and hit refresh without changing anything, but who's going to do that for every player?)

IMHO BM09 isn't fit yet for serious "dynasty" play, but it's fun to mess around with. Sort of like a beta you have to pay for.

Unfortunately, that's how the rosters are every year, except for the defense rating thing. And those problems aren't really ever fixed, largely because by the time the first patch comes out, FRS and I have both released our roster sets, along with other people who take up a roster project themselves.

I have about 5 teams worth of players left to edit (2.5 teams + free agents), as well as fix up the MLB service time for 15 teams, and then test. It shouldn't be more than two weeks before my rosters are out, and FRS's are coming out soon I believe, as well.

but it's fun to mess around with. Sort of like a beta you have to pay for.
And get a full year of updates for.

I wondered about that. It's terrific that you do the roster sets, but if I were publishing this game I'd want to fix the official rosters too. I'm guessing that a very small percentage of BM owners ever download your sets, and those that continue to use the flawed official rosters probably form a bad opinion of the game.

The amount of work that goes into creating a good roster is tremendous. I've been working on my rosters for nearly a month. If Clay spent time working on rosters, he'd never be able to add anything to the game, so he relies on us (mainly me and FRS) to come out with rosters.

The problem is that by the time the necessary information comes out to make rosters (pre-season projections, Opening Day which verifies the opening day rosters..), the game is already out, and holding the game until past Opening Day isn't too good of a decision.

This year, I'm hoping to talk to Clay about including the .mog files for both FRS's rosters AND my rosters in a patch. That would allow those that don't frequent the forums to use updated rosters.

For what it's worth, my last roster set (August 22, 2007) was downloaded 4,508 times. That probably includes some duplicate downloads by people, but I, myself, was astonished by that number. I suppose it represents a small percentage of the overall population of people that buy the game, though.

For those who do not know.

HoustonGM's rosters have always been top notch.
He has added so much to the BBMogul experience.
My hat is off to you Houston and many many thanks.

The current version (11.04) is has bugs (like pretty much everything else), but none of them are of the severe nature. The game doesn't crash on me and I rarely, if ever, get error messages. I typically don't notice any sort of bug that you could classify as anything more than a mild annoyance. The only exception I can think of is the Auto-Sort bug, where the AI auto-sorts your rosters in ways that don't make sense. You definitely won't want to rely on the auto-sort in this current version, but that's really the only thing I can think of.

2008 has barely any bugs. None that affect playing experience. Who told you this?

I too skipped 08 (the 1st one I missed ever), but I got 09 as soon as it was avail.

Ive played it more or less non-stop since and havent had any issues, actually i find the game a bit more realistic (07 always had 5-10 guys that seeemed to be major league stars within 2 years, 09 forces you to plan ahead a bit).
