May, 2008 in review
Record: 26-30 (15-13 in May, 3rd, 3 GB)
Team BA: .270 (T-9th in MLB)
Team ERA: 4.33 (14th in MLB)
Team FLD%: .988 (T-13th in MLB)
Month Summary: Our team continues to be very inconsistant, going on both winning and losing streaks of at least 4 games. Miguel Batista is pitching horribly (1-5 with a 7.77 ERA in 44.0 IP) and could be released or sent down soon. J.J. Putz is also doing really badly with already more blown saves than he had all of last year. On the hitting side, shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt has been doing surprisingly well, he's first on the team in RBI and second in BA, HR and runs.
League Leaders:
AL
East: Boston Red Sox, 35-22 (New York Yankees in second at 32-22 and 1.5 GB)
Central: Minnesota Twins, 33-23 (Kansas City Royals in second at 32-23 and .5 GB)
West: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim/LAnaheim, 28-26 (Oakland A's and Seattle Mariners are in second with records of 25-29 and 26-30 respectively. Both are 3 GB)
NL
East: Philadelphia Phillies, 34-21 (New York Mets in second at 33-21 and .5 GB)
Central: The surprising Cincinnati Reds who have won 10 in a row and now stand at 35-18, tied for the best record in baseball. (Pittsburgh Pirates in second at 28-25 and 7 GB)
West: Los Angeles Dodgers, 35-18 (Arizona Diamondbacks in second at 31-23 and 4.5 GB)
League Injuries: (Again, 3 months or more.)
CHC-Alfonso Soriano (LF) Broken Ankle (three months)
NYY-Victor Santos (P) Broken Ankle (three months)
COL-Luis Vizcaino (P) Torn Rotator Cuff (thirteen months)
CIN-Brandon Phillips (2B) Ruptured Cervical Disk (three months)
CHC-Matt Murton (LF) Broken Ankle (three months)
PHI-Carlos Ruiz (C) Broken Elbow (three months)
COL-Brandon Hynick (P) Severe Elbow Tendonitis (three months)
PHI-Pedro Feliz (3B) Broken Fibula (three months)
DET-Brandon Hamilton (P) Severed Knee Ligament (nine months)
BAL-Aubrey Huff (1B) Broken Neck Vertebra (five months)
And the biggest injury:
LAA-Vladimir Guerrero (RF) Broken Hip (three months)
League Trades:
WSN to CIN:
2B Ron Belliard (33, 81, 40, 129, 31, 3, 14, 1, 15, 0, 0, .240/.305/.333 with Washington)
CIN to WSN
SS Jerry Gil (25, 69/79, Hasn't played in '08)
Uh, what was Washington thinking?
CLE to TEX
SP J.D. Martin (25, 79/89, Hasn't played in '08)
TEX to CLE
2B Ian Kinsler (25 81/85, 40, 166, 44, 5, 8, 16, 21, 5, 5, .265/.330/.428 with Texas)
Decent trade on both sides, I guess. Cleveland is just 2.0 GB of Minnesota and Kinsler has helped them so far. On the other side, Texas is 15-41, have lost eleven in a row and are already 14 GB of the Angels. Martin will help them in the future.
I guess Orioles fans finally got their wish and Aubrey Huff was hit by a bus.
So, should I do a "2008 Draft Preview"? I don't really want to, but if you guys want it I will.
just do what you want to do, if you have fun, then the dynasty will continue, if you don't have fun with this, your dynasty will fall apart..(well on the forums)
I wouldn't Coach. Not if it doesn't interest you.
I think the general consensus, at least of the dynasties I remember going through it recently, is to list who went in the top 10, then focus on yours. We don't need to know everyone, especially as these are fictional peeps.

Boom, Cat: Alright, I'll just do a draft review.

2008 MLB Amateur Draft in Review
Top 10 picks:
1. Rays-Tony Sutherland, 18, 77/96 (RP) Young, but has loads of talent. He has three pitches, two of which (Fastball, rated 86 and Circle Change, rated 80) will be two of the best in the Majors someday. Already has outstanding movement and good power.
2. Pirates-Lonnie Sturges, 18, 72/91 (RP) Same age as Sutherland and almost as good. His movement is better, but his power is a lot lower as you can tell by his good fastball that only reaches 90-92 MPH. He also throws a good circle change.
3. Orioles-Benji Martin, 18, 63/94 (RP) Worse than either than the other two picked so far, but has a higher potential than Sturges. His pitchers are only average.
4. Royals-Anthony Robertson, 17, 67/89 (RP) Younger than the others-not even 17 until October-but his potential is lower than everybody else. His pitches are mediocre.
5. Marlins-Emmanuel Velasguez, 18, 69/94 (RP) Good movement is his highest stat. He has a very good fastball but only one other pitch and it's not very good.
6. Giants-Arnold Whewhell, 17, 68/85 (C) A surprising pick, although the Giants needed a young catcher. Outstanding fielder but only will be an average at best hitter. Drafted the day before he turns 17.
7. White Sox-Roberto Catero, 19, 70/89 (RP) Turns 19 in September and is the oldest drafted so far. Has average power and movement and below-average control. Throws three pitches.
8. Reds-Karl Trilling, 20, 68/81 (RP) Still in high school, which he didn't start until 17. Has good control, but lower power even though he can throw up to 98 MPH.
9. Astros-Tomas Volonte, 17, 55/91 (1B) Only 16, he already has good power. Will likely hit 30-40 homers a year if he develops right. If he reaches the majors, it'll probably be at DH as he's a poor fielder.
10. Nationals-Thad Harmon, 21, 77/90 (RP) Good player all-around. Has an outstanding fastball that he throws in the mid to upper 90s. Also throws an above average slider.
Our picks:
1st Round (22nd)-Trevor Duncan, 16, 50/97 (SP) Not very good right now, but he could develop into one of the greatest pitchers of all-time.
2nd Round (52nd)-Matthew Stuhl, 18, 52/93 (SP) A local kid from Seattle itself. Similarly to Duncan, he's not very good right now but if and when he develops, watch out.
3rd Round (82nd)-Jed Thomas, 19, 51/90 (SP) Our second oldest draftee. Unlikely to reach his peak, but could be a great deal.
4th Round (112th)-Josh Lalonde, 16, 46/80 (RP) Will likely be trade bait. If he peaks, however, he could be a servicable reliever.
5th Round (142nd)-Shawn Haas, 17, 45/77 (RP) Won't be anything special. Probably will only get to AA or AAA in his career.
6th round (172nd)-Todd Bisset, 20, 49/74 (SP) If he ever makes to the big leagues-which he probably won't-he'll probably be a long reliever or an emergency 5th starter.
Too many &$(#*@ relievers. What's going on with the bloody engine?
4 starters and 2 relievers. I guess you're pretty happy with your field, Coach?
