    Ah, baseball is back

Watching the Dodgers-Braves Spring Training game on ESPN, and two batters in, Steve Phillips and whoever the other bonehead is have already made two mistakes! Ah, that's when you know baseball is back!

The benign one was saying Andre Ethier is the left fielder, when he was shown to be the right fielder with Matt Kemp in left. The other mistake, by Steve Phillips, was that the Braves picked up Jair Jurrjens for Edgar Renteria, along with Omar Infante, from the Tigers. Which isn't true. The Tigers sent Jurrjens and Gorkys Hernandez for Renteria. The Braves got Infante from the Cubs with Will Ohman for Jose Ascanio. Now, they're breaking down the Renteria deal and have the correct information up, and usually, and simple mistake like that (like the Ethier in the wrong corner mistake) is just a slip up in talking. However, Steve Phillips does this sort of thing all the time. You'd think he'd be a little better about fact checking, wouldn't you?

    Ah, it feels good.

you mean except for Joe Morgan of course...

I don't watch for them. They happen, all the time, so you can't help but hear them. I just think that announcers should get facts straight. A mess-up every once in a while is whatever because everybody makes mistakes, but there's ROUTINELY mistakes about facts in every game.

If you want the routine mistakes and mispronounciations, along with a heavy dose of that-doesn't-make-sense-at-all, I highly recommend anything with Tim McCarver.

Yeah, McCarver is a serial offender.

I heard more mistakes in the spring training game today than I've ever had mistakes in my fast food orders. And i order fast food a lot.

Well, that would go in Ejections, and not in Sports Talk. This thread qualifies as Sports Talk.

Also, while fast food employees are known for being less than stellar, nationally broadcasted sport entertainment professionals should generally know their proverbial rear end from their elbow, for the sport/team/game they are covering.

    Steve Phillips is teh suck.

That being said, I just wish I'd been able to watch a little of the game today, but I was working my *** off.

Don't you remember Fairly's call of Juniors homer in his 8th consecutive game? I actually liked Fairly, his and Dave's banter back and forth was great. And Niehaus made a hilarious mistake today as well. He called the Giants the San Francisco 49ers! Hey Dave! Football season is over!

It is a human rights violation that people have to sit through games announced by Joe Buck and Tim McCarver.

That being said, sometimes I like Jon Miller and Joe Morgan. Not because they are all that accurate, it just seems like neither of them seem like bad people and they seem the have fun with each other.

Back in the late sixties-early seventies when I watched baseball regularly (I didn't have a computer, then!), my fave announcers were Tony Kubek - full of anecdotes, and inside scoop - and Joe Garagiola -full of fun.

Dave Van Horne, the regular Expo commentator was okay, too...

Miller has fun no matter who he is broadcasting with. I really don't have any complaints about any of the Giants broadcasters, except when they get subs in there like the guy who is normally the raiders broadcaster (can't think of his name atm).
