you know - I visited Tropicana about 7 times, and I gotta say, it was pretty nice! Completely closed in, spacious, good cheap seats, and AC indoors...even during the Sox games last year, it wasn't so crowded as to be bad. It doesn't have the mystique of Fenway or McCovey Cove in the backdrop...but it's a fine stadium, just in the middle of St Petersburg's somewaht decrepit downtown.

Why would the poorest-performing team be so interested in such a huge expenditure for a stadium? Is it just ticket sales? They have a decent fan base (one of my Orlando buddies I brought with me converted into a Rays fan during one trip), and if they actually had a winning season they might do just fine...but personally, I was very impressed after visiting their ballpark, and I think it is fine the way it is.

Of course, the only other park I've been to is Fenway...

I wouldn't want to be standing under that Leaning Tower of Pisa thing. Would give me the willies.

As for the Rays, I'd much rather their new stadium be built in Raleigh.
