starting from scratch by freeing up cap room and getting younger
plus look at the players one by one
- green is a good backup now at best, if he even comes back
- traylor is a passable dt, but is nearly 40
- shelton is so good that both the cards & browns let him leave
- i assume they freed more cap space by releasing booker than they thought booker was worth (as i assume they would be trying to surround their young qb, beck, with some weapons, not to mention they're already thin at this position)
- thomas will be 35 when the season starts & has averaged 15 games a season prior to last year, which is a lot of miles on a guy who doesnt fit the typical prototype of a parcells lb (prefers larger lbs...remember when he nudged nguyen toward retirement in dallas?)
given what the Dolphins were like last year, methinks he needs to do a whole lot more.
I would let 52 players go and start over!
Uhm....pretty much. These Dolphins were epicly bad. Time to just start over.

mtm : How many games did they win with those guys on the roster? So why keep them around, ESPECIALLY since all of them are at a career point where they aren't going to be getting any better.
Parcell is Starting from scratch
I AM DA MAN
You have to cut losses and move on. If you are rebuilding....which hello, they really have to do, then you rebuild with youth not older guys past their prime who will be of no use when the rebuilding is done.
the overall pick(dolphins) i've read everywhere is matt ryan(boston college) so they'll have a new QB
Lakers/Cardinals/Patriots/Penguins
i dont see it in ryan
obviously the best move for them would be to trade down, but barring that i think they should go chris long at #1, as hes a cant miss that can make an impact from week 1 on (not to mention the fact that theres a solid group of
2nd & 3rd round qbs this year...henne, flacco, ainge, johnson & even andre woodson will likely fall to round 2)
I agree with the choice of Long, if they can't move down. There's enough depth at the QB position in this draft that it can wait a round or two, and you know Parcells is going to try and get some defensive cornerstones first in the draft (especially if Jason Taylor is traded for additional picks, as I expect will happen).
Exactly, they can lose just as many games without all of that extra salary. They just have to pull in some mid level guys who're cheaper to replace them, then begin filling in the biggest holes by drafting.
It'll be interesting to see if the Dolphins do trade down to maximize their picks. It would seem to be the quickest way to rise to at least mediocrity this coming season. Remember that there's going to be one first round pick in the second round since the Pats lost their #1. That's another #1 pick, but at a lower cash payout.
Essentially the NFL gave the Dolphins an extra #1 pick.
