    Options that never existed in MLB but are possible...

    Most of these options would simply be change for its own sake but I think some of them have the potential to be interesting.

    Examples:

    Multiple wildcard berths,
    4 division league,
    More than 2 major leagues
    Only 1 major league
    salary cap,
    salary floor

    etc...

    That would be good, espically for online leagues. These should be opitional(turn it on/off in commish mode)

    like the idea of being able to change the number of playoff teams if you choose, plus being able to potentially add another division

    salary floor & cap though would appear to just be another detriment to the ai teams, but i suppose if they were added as options it wouldnt be too bad

    An editable schedule would also be great! Like reduce the # of games to 20?

    Exhibition games would be nice also.

    But I totally agree with the above ideas!!

    I like these ideas, but I'd rather see improvements to the AI...

    * Multiple wildcard berths,

    Maybe. I kinda think 4 teams per league is PLENTY, but I'm not against this.

    * 4 division league,

    THIS would be nice to see.

    * More than 2 major leagues

    Like wildcards, I think 2 MLs gets the job done...but I wouldn't say no to a third.

    * Only 1 major league

    BM05 could do this. I'd like to see it again, sure.

    * salary cap,
    * salary floor

    These fall under the category of "nice to see, but likely to mess up the AI."

    Actually other baseball sims can do this and the AI is not messed up.

    Unfortunately I'm not talking about their AIs. I'm talking about ours. Right now our AI would suffer even further if we imposed more restrictions on it.

    Re: Options that never existed in MLB but are possible...

    Actually there were times when there were only 1 league. From 1871-1875 only the National Association existed. After that the National Association was dropped and the National League was formed due to short comings of the NA. Though other leagues were formed the only other one that lasted long was the American League which wasn't recognized as a Major League until 1901. There were also 2 years when there were 3 leagues though they didn't play each other. In 1914 and 1915 there were 3 leagues: National League, American League, Federal Leauge. The Federal League collapsed after 1915 but for 2 years there were 3 leagues and as many as 3 teams in some cities. Chicago and New York was in all 3 leagues then. New York was supporting 4 or 5 teams then.

    I would like to see the options listed earlier to be available. I'd also like to see it where we could start in 1914-1915 and see the Federal League. Also would love to be able to start in years prior to 1901. Would also enjoy being able to use an option to not have any expansion teams created automatically. Maybe a prompt like when your team changes names or relocates that would let you know that it's the year teams X and Y join the league: Would you like to add teams A and B? That would be nice.

    Re: Options that never existed in MLB but are possible...

    As a workaround, there IS a way to stop expansions.

    Immediately before it SHOULD occur (after the playoffs), rename teams so they have the exact names as the ones coming in. For example, in '61 you'd rename two teams to the Los Angeles Angels and Washington Senators. Don't change anything like home city or abbreviation. You don't want to mess up your records.

    Play until after free agency, since the expansions occur at the same time.

    Change the team names back to where you want them.

    The game won't add a team if its namesake already exists.

    Do just the opposite if you don't want a team renaming itself or moving. For example, change the '69 Pilots to the Mariners (or something) and play through a bit of the post season. It won't move to Milwaukee.

    Similarly, in '72 the Senators should become the Rangers and move to the AL West, while the Brewers shift to the AL East. Changing their names temporarily will prevent that.

    I've seen in another post that if a team is supposed to relocate and the user changes something to the team that stops the relocation that it can sometimes cause problems especially with the calender for games to be played.
