Is it just me, or has Lastings Milledge been in every Mets trade rumor for like 4 years? From his numbers so far, he doesn't look to be that good...does he project as a great power threat, or what?

I knew the Mets were holding out for a catcher deal, but this? Wow.

He's put up a .305/.385/.479 line in 1,173 minor league at bats, playing most of the time at an age younger than average for his level. He's shown strong gap power, which should translate into home runs as he fills out. He's still only turning 23 in April. He has a .740 OPS in 350 major league at bats, which isn't bad for a guy his age. I see him developing into a .290/.300 hitter with 20 homer power, and he plays fine defense.

Didn't the Mets acquire a catcher in Estrada from the Brewers for Mota already?

Yah, but thoughts are they want to drop him before Dec 10th to non-tender him, rather than pay him $4+ million.

So, they basically got rid of Mota, and got nothing back in return.

Yeah but that was a salary dump to get rid of Mota. They're already shopping Estrada around.

Word was that they offered Estrada in this trade, free of charge, but that the Nationals declined wanted just Milledge, preferring to look elsewhere for a catcher to pair with Jesus Flores.

The Mets are going to non-tender him, as the Brewers likely would have. The Mota trade was just to get rid of him, heh.

Minaya is a terribly overrated GM.

Wow, a few years ago this kid was supposed to be great. I remember trade talks were it was him for Manny. And now he gets a decent catcher and a below average outfielder for him
