Re: Yankees, Twins talking about Santana trade

    4:25pm:
In a new twist, the Red Sox have upped the offer to their entire farm system. Minnesota will take control of AAA Pawtucket, AA Portland, and A-ball Lowell affiliates in their entirety - management, stadiums, and all personnel included.

Sources say that Minnesota is still holding out on the deal until Boston promises to include any potential offspring that their current roster might produce.

This just in, John Henry, owner of the Boston Red Sox, has upped his present ownership stake in the Yankees, forcing the Bombers into the International League, and delegating the Twins to the independent Pioneer League.

    4:49 p.m., from Jayson Stark
    • The Twins and Angels continue to talk about a Johan Santana trade. Many of the same players mentioned in the Miguel Cabrera sweepstakes -- Howie Kendrick, Brandan Wood, Nick Adenhart, and possibly Jeff Mathis or Reggie Willits -- would be included in a package for Santana.

    • It is believed that the Angels haven't talked with the Marlins since last night, and Miguel Cabrera is off their radar screen -- at least for now.
NO one owns the Angels do they from the Yankees-Red Sox-Pioneer League Twins to be ?

    6:20 p.m., from Peter Gammons
    • The Tigers have won the Miguel Cabrera sweepstakes. Detroit will get Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis from Florida for six players -- Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, catcher Mike Rabelo and three minor league pitching prospects. The deal is expected to be announced later tonight when the physicals and paperwork are completed.

That could be a real mean starting rotation: Bonderman, Verlander, Willis. And if Cabrera can control his weight and play like 2 years ago, they'll score some runs.

Hopefully Willis does better than he did last year though.

And if Cabrera can control his weight
    There's word that he is

and play like 2 years ago, they'll score some runs.
He's played exactly the same for 3 straight years, so I'm not sure what you mean by "play like 2 years ago." The only difference between him 2 years ago and him now is that he walks a little more. Look at his lines from the past three years:

    .323/.385/.561
    .339/.430/.568
    .320/.401/.565

That is remarkable consistency at a phenomenal level. Moving him out of a pitcher's park should even improve his numbers.

Yeah his hitting number haven't changed but I believe that added weight last year hurt his range at 3rd and it definitely slowed him on the base paths.

I don't think it's enough to really cost his team any runs. Really slow or just plain slow, Cabrera improves the Tigers run-scoring immensely (as if they needed it, being 3rd in the majors and all in 2007)
