    Johnny Estrada for Guillermo Mota

Wow. I feel so sorry for the Brewers. This is probably the worst trade in Brewer history. Trading a catcher and past All-Star who is 32 and is still pretty decent for a roiding 34 year old non-All star relief pitcher who can barely throw and probably led the league last year in "Times getting booed off the mound"

On the other hand, Wow, Mets, you finally proved to me that you can make a half-decent trade...

The Mets got off real well here...not signing Torrealba and instead dumping the salary of a washed up reliever and picking up someone who's going to be cheaper than Torrealba and likely better.

I really can't see the justification for the Brewers on this trade.

Estrada is a solid defensive and offensive catcher with some good years left in his bat. Sure, he doesn't walk a lot and has lost some power but hes still better than anything they have on the roster and better than Jason Kendall, who they appear to be after to replace Estrada, or probably any other C on the FA market. And all they get is a crappy relief pitcher, who has never been that good, that had an ERA close to 6 last season in 40 or 50 something games. Mota makes nearly as much as Estrada too, so its not like its even a salary dump.

I remember hearing that they didn't like Estrada's attitude, or something to that effect, during the season. But the best they could do for them is a near worthless RP whose been busted for 'roid use and even with them can't keep his ERA under 5? I'm almost certain they could've done better for him elsewhere, perhaps a decent prospect, or at least a better reliever, from the Rockies or Marlins.

typical Brewers trading away their incumbant catcher, but they did sign Jason Kendell who is a better bat
lets hope it's for the best

Not really. Even ignoring Kendall's miserable Oakland time last season, Estrada was pretty much his equal, at least in terms of OPS+. If i had to bet, I'd say Estrada has a better offensive season in 2008 than Kendall.

No kidding. Kendall has a career 87.7 AB/HR. Compare that to the all-time leader, Mark McGuire who had a 10.6 AB/HR.

I guess the Mets gave up on signing Torrealba

Kent for Baerga looked like a brilliant trade at the time it was made.

    fingers crossed
