Lets see if Boras can screw....

up another player of his. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3120831

There are at least 3 other CF I would sign ahead of Jones. For my money Hunter, Rowand, and even Posednick would be better money spent than a long term deal with Jones.

Jones isn't as bad as he was this year. Jones walks a decent amount and has power. He likely won't hit .222 again. I expect an average around .250, if not higher, like around his career .263 average. Podsednik can't hit, doesn't walk, and has absolutely no power. Jones is way superior defensively.

Sure, Jones is going to cost something and Podsednik likely nothing...but I'd rather pay for something than not pay for nothing.

You know, of all the random thoughts I had today it never occured to me to wonder if Boras can screw. Is there some medical condition I don't know about?

Jones is the best CF'er available. Power & RBI numbers far outweigh the three you mentioned.....yes, he's coming off a downyear but it would be a mistake for teams to only focus on that and not the entire book of work throughout his career.

Maybe Jones isn't as hugely overrated as Stark's book painted him as, but Boras is going to tout him as the best ever (Christ commeth to Centre Field) and try to get somewhere between JD Drew and A-rod numbers for him.

On one hand its nice that players have a rabid, demon-agent like Boras, who can use an army of staffers to prove whatever player he's preaching can split the sea in two, and get a fair amount of money from MLB (since they're making $6bil and all), but on the other hand, it just makes you sick when you think of those small-market teams that can't keep up. No wonder the Twins didn't even make a discernable move for Hunter...and whenever Boras does get his deal, the players usually suck for the next 162 or so games (Hi, JD Drew).

RBI's are heavily influenced by the team. I'd say Hunter and Jones are a draw, Rowand below them by a fairly large margin (2007 was a career year, and I don't think he's capable of coming close to it again), and Podsednik..well, he's just not even in the same universe.

Among Jones, Hunter, Rowand, and Podsednik, I think Hunter is the best bet to play close to his career norms for the next 2-4 years. I think the others are about to see a big drop-off.

A list of people that Boras hasn't screwed would probably be shorter. It takes one to know one, and no ******* is safe with Scott Boras around.

For the price ( & this is a factor which has to be included in) the best "on the market" as of today is Coco Crisp

Hey - Crisp plays a fantastic center field. There's a large contingent that thinks he was heavily overlooked in the gold glove vote. After seeing a few of his plays live this season, he definitely is impressive.

He hasn't been great on the hitting side, for the last two years I guess...but that could change back. I think his average was still over Jones'... At $3-$4mil next year, with his speed, he's a great option.

His defense makes that statement pretty much true. He was off the charts in nearly every metric this season. He isn't fantastic offensively, but given his defense, he's a very valuable player. BaseballProspectus has him at 27 fielding runs above average, making for an 6 WARP1 (wins above replacement player)

The WARP1 of the mentioned center fielders in 2007:

    Hunter - 5.5
    Jones - 4.6
    Rowand - 7.8
    Podsednik - -0.2
