    2007 Gold Gloves

    http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/awards/y2007/index.jsp

They've been announced down at the bottom of that page.

    C: Ivan Rodriguez, DET
    1B: Kevin Youkilis, BOS
    2B: Placido Polanco, DET
    3B: Adrian Beltre, SEA
    SS: Orlando Cabrera, LAA
    OF: Torii Hunter, MIN
    OF: Grady Sizemore, CLE
    OF: Ichiro Suzuki, SEA
    P: Johan Santana, MIN

    C: Russell Martin, LA
    1B: Derrek Lee, CHC
    2B: Orlando Hudson, ARI
    3B: David Wright, NYM
    SS: Jimmy Rollins, PHI
    OF: Aaron Rowand, PHI(tied)
    OF: Andruw Jones, ATL
    OF: Carlos Beltran, NYM
    OF: Jeff Francoeur, ATL (tied)
    P: Greg Maddux, SD

You know what, I can't take issue with any of these. I thought for sure Derek Jeter was going to win, and while I think there were better choices than Orlando Cabrera (John McDonald, Tony Pena), at least they picked a good fielder.

I thought Pedro Feliz finally might get some recognition. He's truly a great fielder although a terrible hitter. Would have liked to have seen Omar Vizquel win the gold glove as well, but haven't seen enough of Rollins' playing to vote against him. Vizquel is just fun to watch play the field.

I think Tulowitzki should've won the NL, but Rollins is still an okay choice.

Glad to see that Beltre won what he deserved.

Wow is all I can say. I believe (unbiasly of course) that Tulo whould've won the NL SS Gold Glove.

What this proves is that you can have the best all-time fielding team (The Rockies of this year) and have NO GOLD GLOVERS

That's if your only criteria for judging how good a team is at fielding is the amount of errors they commit.

There's really no way to actually tell which team, all time, is the best fielding team.

    Wow, Orlando Cabrera won!

I probably would have picked Joe Mauer, but I certainly can't complain about pudge...
(games played plays somewhat of a role between the two though, now that I really look)

As much as I was disappointed in Beltre's bat when he came to the M's, he is one heck of a fielder, and he is fun to watch...he puts 100% in each play and abat!

Really? You were disappointed in a .276/.319/.482, 25 homers, 99 RBI bat?

334/388/629 The year before he came to the Mariners...and that was done in a pitchers park.

So basically you are asking me if I am happy with half the performance then he is capable of? yes.

No one expected him to hit like that again, but people thought he'd hit just like he did this year.

Vizquel is one of my all-time favorites. I still have some hope that he'll get to the HoF, but he suffers from being a near-contempory of Jeter, Nomar, and A-Rod, plus time is almost certainly going to run out on him before he can get to 3,000 hits, which I figure would still make a player pretty much a lock.

    Re: 2007 Gold Gloves

Rob Neyer of ESPN took issue with the picks in his blog (Insider only).

He basically says that the Gold Gloves don't award the truly outstanding fielders, although they usually at least pick above-average fielders. He says there are three biases in selection - past winners, good hitters, and fielding percentage.

His "picks", while not explicitly stated, seem to be something like this:

    AL:
    P: Johan Santana
C: Doesn't offer an alternative, but says that Pudge is past his prime (true)
    1B: Casey Kotchman
    2B: Mark Ellis/Aaron Hill/Robinson Cano
    3B: Brandon Inge
    SS: Jason Bartlett/Tony Pena/John McDonald
    OF: Coco Crisp
    OF: Curtis Granderson
    OF: ??

    NL:
    P: ??
    C: Yadier Molina
    1B: Albert Pujols
    2B: Orlando Hudson
    3B: Pedro Feliz
    SS: Troy Tulowitzki
    OF: Carlos Beltran
    OF: Andruw Jones
    OF: Eric Byrnes

I actually agree with Neyers comments but Beltre is one heck of a fielder but I believe that Ichiro isn't a GG Centerfielder, Rightfielder yes, not CF.
