Torrealba put the Rockies on the board early in the 2nd inning with a 2-run pop fly HR to LCF (4, 403 ft.). Brandon Phillips shrunk the Rockies lead to 2-1 with a solo HR (9, 423 ft.) with 2 down in the second to make it 2-1 Rockies. Seth Smith (Who was playing because Hawpe got the day off) gave the Rockies their second 2-run HR in as many innings. He hit a 2-run HR (1, 420 ft. First Career HR) with 2 out in the 3rd and made it 4-1 Rockies. Brandon Phillips struck again with a 3-run HR (10, 426 ft.) this time, and tied the game at 4. Holliday gave the Rockies at 5-4 lead when he hit a solo HR (17, 424 ft.).Alex Gonzalez put the Reds up by 1 in the 6th with 2-run HR (2, 429 ft.) to CF: 6-5 Reds. An Adam Dunn ground out in the 7th scored another Reds' run and made it 7-5. PH Brad Hawpe tied the game at 7 in the 9th with a PH double with 1 out. Matsui grounded out and Helton struck out to bring the game to extras. After a single and 2 walks the bases were loaded with 0 OUTS for Brandon Phillips. Jeff Keppinger singled to left after Phillips popped out and scored 2 to make it 9-7 Reds. Of course my offense fails and we lose 9-7.

Cory Sullivan led off the game with a solo HR (1, 375 ft.) and made it an early 1-0 Rockies' lead. After Atkins reached on an Adam Dunn error, Torrealba walked, and Ramon Ortiz laid down a sacrifice bunt, Cory Sullivan came up with 2 outs and 2 on and drove them both in with a 2-run double: 3-0 Rockies. Griffey made it 3-1 with a PH solo HR (10, 434 ft.) in the 5th inning. Cory Sullivan drove in another run with a double into LF, which scored Tulowitzki, and made it 4-1 Rockies in the 6th inning. Adam Dunn made it 4-2 in the 8th with a sac fly off of Fuentes to Seth Smith (RF), scoring Norris Hopper. A walk to Marlon Byrd later that inning loaded the bases for Josh Hamilton. He singled up the middle scoring 1 and making it 4-3 Rockies. However Betancourt came in and stopped the bleeding in the 8th and preserved a 1 run Rockies lead with 1 inning left. Tulowitzki promptly made it a 2-run lead with a lead-off solo HR (7, 432 ft.), and it's now 5-3 Rockies. Betancourt shut the Reds down in the 9th and put the Rockies 2 games below .500
Cincinnati MVP: Ken Griffey Jr.: 1-1, R, HR (10), RBI (24).
Colorado MVP: Cory Sullivan: 3-4, 2 2B (3,4), BB, R, HR (1), 4 RBI (8).

A Josh Hamilton ground out to Francis in the 1st inning got the Reds on the board first. Brad Hawpe tied the game up in the 4th with an RBI-single to RF that scored Holliday, who had doubled. 3 straight 2 out walks by Jeff Francis loaded the bases in the 6th for the Reds. However he was able to induce David Ross to pop up to end the inning. Ken Griffey Jr. struck again with another PH HR (11, 410 ft.), a 2-run HR to make it 3-1 Reds. Jeff Baker tripled to start the 7th inning, and Tulowitzki drew a walk to put runners on the corners with 0 gone. Iannetta struck out and PH Garrett Atkins flied out to RF, but it was deep enough to allow Baker to score from third and made it 3-2 Reds. YESSS! Kazuo Matsui tied the game at 3 in the 8th with a lead-off HR (3, 410) into the RF Bleachers. A throwing error by Michael Young with 1 out in the 8th allowed Matt Holliday to reach second, and put the Rockies in a prime position to take the lead. Which happened when PH Cory Sullivan singled into LF, and gave the Rockies a 4-3 lead. Betancourt came in and got 2 quick outs, but then he gave up a double to PH Alex Gonzalez, but he struck out Brandon Phillips to end the game.
Cincinnati MVP: Ken Griffey Jr.: 1-1, R, HR (11), 2 RBI (26).

ROCKIES ROLL INTO JUNE
The Colorado Rockies started the season off shaky, but recovered in the month of May. A 16-12 month helped the Rockies get within 1 game of the .500% mark. Never losing more than 2 games in a row and winning series was the key. Hopefully the Rockies can hold onto that momentum, and, with a little luck, get closer to San Diego or even tie San Diego for 1st in the west
Overall Record: 26-27
Month Record: 16-12
Winning Streak: 2 Games
The Good:

June 2nd: Chris Sampson (4-3, 3.79) AT Anibal Sanchez (2-3, 6.27)
June 3rd: Wandy Rodriguez (1-3, 4.32) AT Josh Fogg (3-3, 3.10)

Hunter Pence got the Astros off to a fast start when he used his speed to hit a triple and drive in Mike Lamb who had walked. The Astros broke the game to 2-0 when Craig Biggio hit a solo HR (4, 396 ft.) to the RF bleachers. The Rockies came back in the 4th when Jamie Carroll (Playing for Helton) hit a 2-run HR (1, 427) to CF and made it 2-2. Cory Sullivan (Playing for Holliday) then made it 3-2 when he drove in Tulo who had doubled. Chris Iannetta (Playing for Torrealba) promptly followed that up with a 2-run HR (1, 422 ft.), and this made it 5-2 Rockies. Tulo was able to put the Rockies up 6-2 with a RBI single up the middle in the 5th off Dennis Sarfate. PH Clint Barmes made it 7-2 in the 6th with a solo HR (1, 380 ft.) to RF. TROY TULOWITZKI broke the game wide open in the bottom half of the 7th inning with a GRAND SLAM (8, 416 ft. 1st career grand slam) to dead CF following a Carlos Lee error. After that we shut the down and THE ROCKIES ARE AT .500%
Houston MVP: Craig Biggio: 1-4, R, HR (4), RBI (13).
Colorado MVP: Troy Tulowitzki: 3-4, 2 R, GS (8), 5 RBI (31).

Carlos Lee gave Houston a quick 1-0 lead in the 1st by hitting a double that scored Lance Berkman. Mike Lamb quickly followed with a single that scored Lee, and made it 2-0 Houston. A Matt Holliday error allowed the inning to continue, and Craig Biggio capatilized with a RBI-single to LF to make it 3-0. However, Kazuo Matsui quickly made it a 3-2 ballgame with a 2-run HR (4, 394 ft.) that plated Taveras, who had doubled to lead off the inning. Matt Holliday followed with a line drive HR (18, 359 ft.) that just curved around the LF foul pole and tied the game. Torrealba came up with 2 outs and drove in a run to make it a 4-3 Rockies advantage. Then, even the pitcher got involved when Josh Fogg singled up the middle to load the bases. However that inning came to an end when Taveras popped out to short. The Astros regained the lead in the 4th when Luke Scott hit a 2-out 3-run HR (4, 415 ft.) to make it 6-4 'Stros. Hunter Pence made it 7-4 in the 6th when he hit a RBI single into CF. Aaron Cook brought it within 2 with a single up the middle in the 6th inning. However Mike Lamb answered in the 7th inning with a solo HR (5, 429 ft.) and made it 8-5. 3 straight walks in the 7th loaded the bases for Tulowitzki with 1 out. GUess what happened next, Tulo walked, scoring a run, and making it 8-6 'Stros. Hawpe followed with, you guessed it, another walk to make it 8-7 Astros. Torrealba ended the walk streak, and the inning, with a 4-6-3 DP. A couple of singles and a walk in the 8th brought Helton up with 1 out and down by 1. However Helton grounded into a 6-4-3 DP. Ty Wiggington made it 9-7 with a single up the middle.
Houston MVP: Luke Scott: 2-5, R, HR (4), 3 RBI (25)
Colorado MVP: Kazuo Matsui: 2-5, R , HR (4), 2 RBI (15).

June 4th:
Houston: 6:15:1
Colorado: 7:7:1
The Astros scored their first run when Matt Holliday committed his 2nd error of the year. Lance Berkman then made it 2-0 Astros when he singled into Right scoring Lee. Craig Biggio struck with a 2-out double to make it 3-0 Astros. Mike Lamb made it 4-0 'Stros with a solo HR (6, 393 ft.). However, Torrealba closed the gap quickly with a 3-run HR (5, 401 ft.) in the bottom half of the inning. The Astros never stopped scoring runs as they hit 3 straight singles and made it 5-3 Astros. Lopez got a double play, but the walked Woody Williams to load the bases for Luke Scott with 2 gone. Thank god Luke Scott grounded out to end the inning. Lopez got out of another jam in the 4th, but he keeps me worrying with a 1:4 K:BB ratio this game. Lopez escaped another jam with a 3-6-1 double play with 2 men on. Matt Holliday brought us within 1 with a solo HR (19, 412 ft.) in the 6th inning. The bullpen allowed a run in the 7th when Brad Ausmus singled into RF and made it 6-4 'Stros. Willy Taveras brought their lead to 1 in the 7th with a 2-out single to center. However, Matsui grounded out to end the inning. A walk by Tulowitzki to start the inning and Brad Hawpe reaching on an error put runners on 1st and 2nd with 0 out in the 9th against Brad Lidge. YES! YES! YES! PH Clint Barmes comes in with 1out in the bottom of the 9th against Brad Lidge and takes a 2-0 Fastball and triples, scoring 2, and WIN THE GAME!
Houston MVP: Lance Berkman: 3-5, 2 R, RBI (21)
Colorado MVP: Clint Barmes: 1-1, 3B (1), 2 RBI (3)
WP: Rafael Betancourt (3-1)

June 5th:

Carlos Lee drove in the first run of the game with a 2-out single into LF to make it 1-0 Astros. Brad Hawpe rapidly gave the Rockies a 2-1 lead with a 2-run HR (15, 354 ft.) around the LF foul pole in the 5th. The Astros threatened in the 8th inning when Carlos Lee hit a 2-out triple. However, Ortiz got Hunter Pence to ground out to Tulowitzki to preserve the 1 run lead. However, Betancourt couldn't hold it as he allowed PH Brooks Conrad (batting .156 against RHP) to single into RF to tie the game at 2. The offense couldn't score any runs and we get FREE BASEBALL! Mark Lorretta hit a solo HR (2, 431 ) with 1 out in the 10th to put the Astros up by 1. My bullpen completely sucked tonight. A Lance Berkman FC ground out allowed another run to score to make it 4-2 Astros. Tulowitzki lead off the home half with a double and was driven in 2 batters later by Yorvit Torrealba who singled into left to make it 4-3 'Stros. However Sullivan struck out and Matsui flied out to lose the game.

Back at this dynasty thing again: Resurrecting The Rockies: 2001 Onward
Amateur Draft Report:
The Colorado Rockies had the #9 overall pick this year, and are looking to get some good prospect pitchers
1st round:
Matias Rosal- SP (54/92)
End: 81
Con: 69
Pow: 63
Mov: 53
Def: 75
Hit: 85
Hea: 81
There were a couple of players that were around this overall, but I felt that Rosal would be the best and I especially liked his high health rating (81). He throws a Fastball (64), Forkball (56), Two-Seamer (45), and a Curveball (67). Hopefully this guy can become a franchise player someday.
2nd Round:
Aaron Veal- RP (47/91)
End: 24
Con: 61
Pow: 66
Mov: 48
Def: 79
Hit: 49
Hea: 87
Veal could turn into a power pitcher (95+ MPH), and with decent control. However he will have to hit his spots as his movement isn't very good. Another downside is that he only throws a Fastball (69) and a Change (46).
3rd Round:
Raul Valentinos- SP (51/86)
End: 94
Con: 59
Pow: 67
Mov: 51
Def: 72
Hit: 47
Hea: 87
Valentinos would be a good #3 type starter and can be an inning eater. His power is better than his control, which would be something that we need to work on. He throws only 3 pitches which are: a Fastball (54), a Change (68), and a Curveball (48).
4th Round:
Ryan Nelson- SP (51/86)
End: 83
Con: 66
Pow: 65
Mov: 51
Def: 75
Hit: 98
Hea: 87
He should turn into a good SP. He has the endurance to go 7 innings and he should have the right control and power to be able to shut down opponents. He throws a Fastball (50), Hard Slider (50), a Spiltter (65), and a Circle Change (50).
5th Round:
Jay Scott- SP (49/80)
End: 82
Con: 60
Pow: 72
Mov: 48
Def: 76
Hit: 62
Hea: 82
Jay Scott should be a pitcher that can put some heat on the ball as he throws it to home. Hopefully he cand become a reliable #4 type SP. Scott throws a Fastball (54), Spiltter (69), and a Change (48).
6th Round:
Chris Routh- RP (49/78)
End: 24
Con: 65
Pow: 62
Mov: 52
Def: 83
Hit: 68
Hea: 91
If he can gain a little experience and raise up a little bit talent wise he could become a decent RP. He throws a Fastball (68), Slider (44), and a Sinker (63).

A single by Victor Martinez with 2 out in the 1st gave the Indians a 1-0 lead early. Matt Holliday tied it up in the bottom half of the inning when he singled home Taveras. Kenny Lofton made it an Indians lead 2-1 in the 3rd with an inside the park HR (10). After Willy Taveras tripled, Todd Helton singled into LF to tie the game back up at 2. However that didn't last long because Garrett Atkins hit a 2-run HR (10, 384 ft.) to make it 4-2 Rockies. Matt Holliday extended the Rockies lead to 5-2 with a lead off HR (20, 354 ft.) in the 5th inning. Ben Francisco made it 5-3 in the 8th with a double to LCF. June 8th:
Celeveland: 1:10:0
Colorado: 2:11:0
Even though the Indians started out with 0 out and runners on the corners Anibal Sanchez buckled down and allowed 0 runs. Sanchez does it again in the 2nd putting some strain on this young kid's heart. The Rockies put the first run across the board when Kazuo Matsui doubled home Willy Taveras from 2B. Then, after a Matt Holliday ground out, Todd Helton made it 2-0 with a triple into the Right Field gap. In the 7th the Indians mounted a rally with 2 walks and a single loading the bases for Travis Hafner. Francis came in for Hafner and got him to ground out to end the inning. The Indians broke the shut out in the 9th when Grady Sizemore singled home Kenny Lofton after a botched bunt attempt. However, he was able to get Victor Martinez to ground into a 6-4-3 game-ending DP.
Cleveland MVP: Grady Sizemore: 2-4, BB, RBI (27)
Colorado MVP: Kazuo Matsui: 1-4, 2B (12), R, RBI (16)
WP: A. Sanchez (4-3)
LP: F. Carmona (4-5)

June 9th:
Celeveland: 5:11:0
Colorado: 6:11:1
The Indians got off to a good start when Jhonny Peralta hit a 2-run HR (7, 360 ft.) in the first to make it 2-0. After a Grady Sizemore single, Josh Fogg allowed another 2-run HR, to Travis Hafner (9, 390 ft.) to make it 4-0 Indians. The Rockies got their first run when Matt Holliday singled home Willy Taveras with 2 outs in the bottom of the first inning. The Rockies made it 4-2 in the 5th when Kazuo Matsui tripled home Chris Iannetta. Garrett Atkins tied it up in the 6th with a 2-run HR (11, 432 FT.). However, Josh Fogg lost the lead in the 7th when he gave up a solo HR to Victor Martinez (18, 395 ft.): 5-4 Indians. The Rockies have a great chance in the 8th when we started off with back-to-back walks, but then Helton grounded into a 5-4-3 DP, to put a runner on 3rd and 2 out. But, Garrett Atkins came through with a single and tied the game at 5. In the bottom of the 10th, with 1 out, Matt Holliday came up to bat and hit a walk-off, Solo, HR (21, 425 ft.) to win the game, and finish the series in a sweep.
Cleveland MVP: Travis Hafner: 3-4, R, HR (9), 2 RBI (30)

The White Sox scored the first run when Brian N.Anderson singled into center to make it 1-0. A.J. Pierzynski made it 2-0 White Sox when he singled home Brian Anderson. However, Willy Taveras made it 2-1 White Sox when he singled home Kazuo Matsuo to start the bottom of the 1st inning. The Rockies caught a break in the 1st when Garrett Atkins came up and reached second on an error by Scott Podsenik, allowing 2 runs to score and the Rockies to take a 3-2 lead. Chris Iannetta brought that lead up to 5-2 with a 2-out, 2-run, triple into the RF gap. That was all Contreras would see as he was lifted for a PH in the 2nd inning. However, the Rockies 3-run lead was erased in the 3rd when Jim Thome hit a 3-run HR (21, 398 ft.) into LF to tie it up. However, the Rockies were able to regain the lead with a Garrett Atkins solo HR (12, 371 ft.) to make it 6-5 Rox. Another lead change happened in the top of the 4th when PH Jermaine Dye hit a 2-run HR (14, 429 ft.) to make it 7-6 White Sox. However the Rockies were able to tie it up at 7 in the 4th when Willy Taveras drove in another run. 2 batters later Matt Holliday was able to give the Rockies an 8-7 lead with a single back up the middle. That didn't last long as Juan Uribe made it 8-8 with a solo HR (12, 359 ft.) in the 5th. Who would've guessed it, another lead change, however this one came off the bat of Rodrigo Lopez who was batting .053. He made it 9-8 in the bottom of the 5th inning. The Rockies took a 2-run lead in the bottom of the 6th when Matt Holliday singled home Brad Hawpe, after Willy Taveras was thrown out trying to score a batter earlier. That lead didn't last long though. A.J. Pierzynski tied it up at 10 with a 2-run HR (15, 433 ft.) in the 7th inning. The Rockies pulled ahead in the bottom of the 8th with a Matt Holliday single into RF to make it 11-10 Rox. Todd Helton made it bases loaded when he drew a walk. However, the Rockies couldn't cash in, so they will go into the 9th with a 1-run lead. Betancourt came in and put an end to a crazy game.
Chicago MVP: A.J. Pierzynski: 2-5, R, HR (15), 3 RBI (43)
Colorado MVP: Matt Holliday: 3-4, BB, R, 3 RBI (50)

Matt Holliday got the Rockies off to a good start with a 2-run HR (22, 380 ft.) in the 1st inning to make it 2-0 Rockies. Following a Helton single, Troy Tulowitzki, too, hit a 2-run HR (9, 414 ft.) this making it 4-0 Rockies. A walk, a hit by pitch, and a single through the left side by Iannetta gave the Rockies their 2nd straight 5-run 1st inning. A walk to Willy Taveras, after an Ortiz sac bunt, loaded the bases for Matsui. However, Matsui grounded out to end the inning. The Rockies made it 6-1 when Willy Taveras singled home Chris Iannetta, after he was advanced to 3rd on an Ortiz sac bunt. After a couple of singles and a walk in the 4th the White Sox had the bases loaded for Juan Uribe. Who, drove in 2 with a single into RCF to make it 6-2. Juan Uribe struck again with a RBI single into RF to make it a 6-3 Rockies' lead. Then Alex Cora made it 6-4 with the exact same hit as Uribe. Then PH Luis Terrero made it 7-6 with a 3-run HR (4, 419 ft.). Tulowitzki made it a 7 all game with a solo HR (10, 424 ft.), his 2nd HR of the game. Three straight singles to lead off the 7th inning made it so Matt Holliday came up with the bases loaded. Holliday, first, grounded into a double play, but also hit into a 4-2-3 DP, that made it so 0 runs scored. A Helton strike out ended what once looked like a promising inning. WE GET FREE BASEBALL!!! However, the Rockies go into extra innings with only 1 RP left in their bullpen, Aaron Cook. Cook allowed 1 run in the 10th when A.J. pierzynski drove home Jermaine Dye who had doubled, all of this with 2 out. The Rockies offense can't do anything and they lose after having a 5-0 lead going into the 4th. We had 10 of our 15 hits by the end of the 3rd inning.
Chicago MVP: Luis Terrero: 1-1, R, HR (4), 3 RBI (10)
Colorado MVP: Troy Tulowitzki: 3-5, 2 R, 2 HR (9, 10), 3 RBI (35)

Who would've guessed....Jermaine Dye doubles, A.J. pierzynski hits him home and it's 1-0 White Sox. Dye is sure hitting in the clutch for only batting .199. Troy Tulowitzki ties the game at 1 with a single into LF in the 3rd inning. Willy Taveras makes it 2-1 Rockies in the 4th with an RBI single to right, scoring Iannetta. Juan Uribe tied the game up at 2 with a solo HR (13, 386 ft.) in the 7th inning. However, that didn't last long as Matt Holliday hits a solo HR (23 353 ft.) around the LF foul pole to make it 3-2 Rockies. Brad Hawpe made it 5-2 Rockies with a 2-run double into the LF corner. Iannetta then drove in Hawpe to make it 6-2 good guys. Following a walk to P Jeff Francis, Willy Taveras singled to make it 7-2 Rockies, and give them 3 5-run innings in 3 days! Matsui lined out to RF to end the inning. Jeff Francis came back strong in the 8th as he struck out the side. Matt Holliday added an insurance run with a lead-off HR (24, 398 ft.) to give the Rockies and 8-2 lead, and to pull himself into the NL lead in HR (He also leads in Batting average.). Then a bases loaded walk to Jeff Francis later that inning made it a 9-2 Rockies lead. Taveras singled, but Matsui struck out to end the inning: 10-2 Rockies. After a questionable double play call A.J. Pierzynski made it 10-4 (good buddy) Rockies with a 2-run HR (16, 402 ft.).
Chicago MVP: A.J. Pierzynski: 3-4, 2B (7), R, HR (16), 3 RBI (48).
Colorado MVP: Matt Holliday: 3-5, 2 R, 2 HR (23, 24), 2 RBI (54).

I walk into my office late after a good win against the Chicago White Sox. Sitting there is Manager Clint Hurdle, Pitching Coach Bob Apodaca, Hitting Coach Alan Cockrell, and Special Assistant Walt Weiss. "We need to solve some things. I know we have been hot of late, but I feel that we have just a couple of swaps that could be made." I said "First Torrealba came off the DL today and we need to figure out who to start. Torrealba or Iannetta. That's why I called you here today. I can look at the stats, but that doesn't tell the whole story." Torrealba is hitting .255 with 5 HR and 37 RBI while Iannetta is batting .275 with 1 HR and 8 RBI in limited duty. Cockrell speaks up and says "Well, on offense during the last couple of games Iannetta has been doing pretty well batting .413." "However, on defense he really has been letting people run on him" Says Walt Weiss. "He hasn't stopped a single base stealer all year. Torrealba has a 25% CS rate." So what is it guys?" I state "Do we go for offense or do you go for the defense. The offense that has ignited our lineup or the defense that has cut down some base stealers." "Wait!" Clint says "Let's not just look at Avg and CS%. Iannetta's OPS is .867 while Torrealba's in .700. That plays a huge factor in how many runners are on in front of our pitchers." Everyone murmers in agreement. "So it's settled we'll keep Iannetta in for the time being?" I ask. A resounding "yes" comes back from everyone. "Now onto our second problem. What are we going to do with Anibal Sanchez and Aaron Cook after Josh Fogg comes back from his minor injury? Do we keep Sanchez or Cook for the #2 SP?" I question. "He (Sanchez) got off to a rough start in Colorado" Apodaca reminds us. "But Cookie did too. In his first 4 games he allowed 16 of his 19 Earned Runs. Since then he allowed 2 ER in a 3.2 inning relief stint and the 1 run allowed yesterday." "Right now I am leaning a little bit towards Cook, but I want to see how he does in his next 2 starts." I say "Yea. They all agree" It's painless when they agree with you. Just a little around the league Award updates. Matt Holliday leads 3 of the major 4 batting awards. He leads Hits with 92 (Leads Willy Taveras by 4), Home Runs with 24 (Leads Aramis Ramirez by 1), and Average with .374 (Leads Mike Lamb by .021). He is behind in the RBI chase by 6 (Aramis Ramirez has 60, Holliday has 54). Tulowitzki is putting up a strong contention for ROTY. However, he is in 2nd or 3rd place in all major categories to Hunter Pence or Josh Hamilton, so it looks like he will have to continue his hot streak.

Well Sanchez showed me he went out and threw 8 Innings of 4 Hit ball and only gave up 1 Earned Run, along with 7 Strike outs. So we may actually stay with Sanchez
