A Day in the Life of a 13 Year-Old GM

"Travis Come Here" I walk up to the front of the room 'Uh Oh a note from the office, Not good!’ I thought. You can go" I walked out of the room my heart pounding. 'What could it be' I thought 'Those rats I let loose, the underwear I hung to the flag pole, or the cherry bombs I put in the toilets?' I walked in the office and there sat 5 men. 4 I had never seen alongside my Principal 'Oh, Sh*t' I thought. I tried thinking of a good excuse, but nothing came to me "Sit down" my principal said. As soon as I sat down another man popped in. I recognized him immediately. “Clint Hurdle!” I said “What are you doing here” “Let me explain” “I am Charlie Monfort. Half owner of the Colorado Rockies and this is my brother, pointing to his left, Dick” When he said that I am trying to stop a laugh, unsuccessfully. “Yes I know my name is kind of funny” Dick said smartly. “Let’s get down to business this is (from left to right) Charlie and Dick Monfort, Dan O’Dowd, Clint Hurdle, and Bud Selig.” My principal stated “Travis the Colorado Rockies recently fired their General Manager…” “But…” I started. “Let me finish. As I was saying they fired Dan O’Dowd today and they are on a hunt to find a new General Manager and have some interest in you. They, of course, would have to still go through the same process with everyone else. So I will let you guys talk it out. Also they will have to figure out about school.” When my principal said that I was being interviewed for the GM job I went straight past CLOUD 9 and went straight to CLOUD 11. “O…k” I croaked.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charlie Monfort will be CM, Dick Monfort will be DM, Dan O’Dowd will be DOD, Clint Hurdle will be CH, and Bud Selig will be BS. I will be ME.

CM: “What do you think you could bring to this baseball club?”

ME: “I think that I could help improve this team for now and the future to be able to keep them winning for years while keeping them under or around our budget.

DM: “How will you make the team better for now and the future?”

ME: “I will look to take some of our players we do not need and look to trade them for prospects or to fill holes we have now. I would also look for someone that is MLB-Ready at a young age and hopefully have a cheap contract so we can sign them young to keep it so we don’t lose them to FA and that we keep them, hopefully, under a 7M/year contract.”

CH: “What can you provide me on the field to help in-game?”

ME: “Hmmmmm. I can see everything from above, in the Owner’s Box, so I can see everything at once so I can help with positioning and I think I have a knowledge of when to Pinch-hit, Pinch-Run, Sub, Hit-and-Run, etc.”

BS: “What all can you bring to the league in whole?”

ME: “I can bring in some youth to the league and bring in some new, younger, ideas to help get youths involved.”

    Thank you!

    COLORADO ROCKIES FIND NEW GM
    Youngest in history
    March 1st, 2007

Denver-- Today the Colorado Rockies ended their search for a new GM right before Spring Training started and their new man is 13 year-old Travis Ritchie. Ritchie was one of 3 final GMs for the spot and he beat them out. Travis brings a new sense of change to the league and definitely some younger views. Here’s what Ritchie said today “I am honored to be picked for the General Manager of the Colorado Rockies. I am hoping I can pick up where Dan O’Dowd left off and then improve so we can be World Series Champions, not just contenders, for many years to come”

    This dynasty is unique.

It will not only follow the team but it will follow the journey of their GM Travis Ritchie through the year as he progresses as a General Manager. I will play on Coach for both and will move up if it gets too easy.

Re: A Day in the Life of a 13 Year-Old GM

April 4th-6th, 2007 Arizona Diamondbacks (0-0) vs. Colorado Rockies (0-0)

    Probable Matchups:

    April 4th: Jeff Francis (0-0, 0.00) AT Brandon Webb (0-0, 0.00)
    April 5th: Off Day
    April 6th: Aaron Cook (0-0, 0.00) AT Doug Davis (0-0, 0.00)

    April 4th:
    Colorado: 4:5:0
    Arizona: 2:5:0

The Rockies got off to a Rocky start when Carlos Quentin homered in the 2nd inning (1st HR/RBI, 391 ft.). In the 2nd-3rd inning there were 5 straight K's by both teams (Snyder-Torrealba-Carroll-Francis-Webb). Webb then struck out 5 straight Rockies after the combination K was snapped by a lineout. This game was dominated by the pitchers through 5 IP they combined for 3 Hits, 13 Strikeouts, 2 Walks, and 1 run (earned and unearned), also the Rockies got their first hit with 1 out in the 4th inning thanks to a Garrett Atkins double. After I typed that the Rockies got on the board after a HBP and single the Rockies had 1st and 2nd and 2 outs when Matt Holliday singled to LF (1st RBI) and Jeff Francis scored (1st run). Helton followed promptly with an instant replay single to LF (1st RBI) and scored Willy Taveras (1st run) making it 2-1 Rockies. Hawpe popped out with the bases loaded (Atkins walked) with 2 outs, ending the threat. Atkins followed through, after the Rockies almost let an Eric Byrnes error slip past, with a 2 out, 2-run HR (1st HR, 1st-2nd RBI, 396 ft.). This was after Tulo reached on an error by Byrnes leading off and went to third on a 1 out sac fly by Todd Helton. Everything was smooth till the 9th when...Brian Fuentes was greeted roughly as Orlando Hudson knocked one out to Left-Center (1st HR/RBI, 396 ft.). He gave up another hit to Eric Brynes and with Manny Corpas warming in the pen got Mark Reynolds to pop to Short and then Conor Jackson to hit into a 3-6-1 game-ending DP.

    Colorado MVP: Jeff Francis: 8 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 10K, 1 R (1 ER), 116 Pitches.
    Arizona MVP: Carlos Quentin: 2-4, HR (1), RBI (1), 2B (1).

    WP: J. Francis (1-0)
    LP: B. Webb (0-1)
    SV: B. Fuentes (1)

April 6th: I accidently simmed it so no recap
    Colorado: 4:9:1
    Arizona: 5:10:0

    Colorado MVP: Brad Hawpe: 2-2, HR (1), 2 BB (2), R (1), RBI (1)
    Arizona MVP: Conor Jackson: 2-4, 2 RBI (2), R (1), 2B (1)

    WP: Juan Cruz (1-0)
    LP: Manuel Corpas (0-1)
    SV: Jose Valverde (1)
