    Girardi not Mattingly?

I have not been hearing a lot of baseball talk last week or so because I have been really busy at work so Im hoping someone can answer this for me... like couple days ago I heard that Don Mattingly was going to be announced as the next Yankee Manager... now yesterday I hear its going to be Girardi.... was it George who changed his mine and decided on Girardi or did Mattingly decide to say no?

As of today there is no announcement. Mattingly, Girardi and Pena were all interviewed but no decision has been announced though there is a lot of speculation.

I think they will go with Girardi.

No matter who they decide on this will be a repeat of the 80's for the Yanks, a long stretch of futility.

Looks like it's going to have to be a complete rebuild too. Posada and Mo are purported to have said they'd leave if Torre didn't come back. Plus Mo was insulted by the Yankees lack of an extension in the spring. A Fraud showed his true colors and ran the h#%l out the door when no one was looking, Moose is looking done, Pettit supposedly may just retire. Roger ain't got it anymore, Giambi...... 'nuff said there, Damon's not the player he was in Boston.......

Yes it appears to be Joe Girardi....this may help though as he was on a few Yanks Series wins....However I do see a complete revamping of the lineup. Damon is unsatisfied as a back-up but under contract and Giambi has the Yanks on the hook for 21 million next season....with his numbers no one will bite that apple. However Moose was horrible this year, Andy P and Clemens are gone. Mo will leave and Posada I am not sure on. I see a few years of downturn ahead!

Update: Mattingly is upset and has said he won't be back as a Yanks coach under Girardi.

Sounds like Sour grapes! I believe Donnie baseball was not forceful enough in stating his desire for the job.....his early comments after Joe was on the hook made it appear he was unsure if he was up to the job. Maybe the Tampa team felt the same way.

I'm not sure you're talking about the same comments, but after Mattingly was reported by some Florida newspaper as having said essentially that he wasn't sure he was ready, a "spokesman" later denied that he said anything to that effect.

Reports in the local NY papers over the past week or so have been that he was uncharacteristically forceful and determined, according to what the Steinbrenner crew said after the interviews.

And so it begins....Posada, Rivera, Vizcaino and Doug M, have all filed for free-agency. I knew Doughwould go as he was only brought in to steady A-Rod. Vizcaino to me is no loss but Posada and Rivera!

    Yup. Let the rebuilding begin!

Sad Sad. This is a major overhaul! Forget a tweak here and there.

    Yankees! 2008 WS Champs!
Maybe you should change that to: "Yankees! 20?? WS Champs!"

Mattingly is going to the Dodgers with Torre. What a change in scenery for those two. Dodgers have been rebuilding for the past 20 seasons. I wonder if Joe will make a difference?

    You mean 2??? WS Champs.

If not 2008, the only other option is 2009.
