Re: barry mad at being fired

This is from his signing last year:

As the winter meetings ended, Sabean hinted he wasn't willing to wait much longer to cut a deal. He was asked if he had any idea if other teams were interested in Bonds.

    "No," he said.

    Did he care?

    "No."

Bonds didn't attend the Giants' negotiations here -- "It wasn't prudent," Sabean said -- but Borris made it seem Bonds was at the winter meetings hotel to visit with multiple teams. As the meetings ended, however, no other team emerged with legitimate interest in the 42-year-old left fielder.

    (* * *)

    Exit Bondi.

Frankly, you're insane to pay $16 million a year to someone who is 43 years old and with a history of injuries like Barry Bonds. $2 million? Maybe. Above that? No. He's got a great OBP, but how many games will he play?

The fact that Bonds brings horrible press with him and manages to drive management crazy with his surly attitude is no plus. This current "you treated me wrong, Giants" rant doesn't help, as almost all of baseball knows that San Francisco bent over backwards to accomodate him. Reclining chair? Two lockers? Clubhouse access for your many assistants? San Francisco gave him all that, and probably more.

If I were a GM, I'd probably sign him for $1 million, and tell him that he gets no special treatment. If Bonds goes south physically -- or more likely, goes south mentally -- I figure I can burn $1 million if I'm a mid-market team.

Also: Barry Bonds had 21 win shares in 2007. That accounted for seven Giants wins, all by himself.

So did Josh Willingham of the Florida Marlins, and they only paid Josh $380K/yr.

But it puts both of them in the top 30 in the NL in terms of Win Shares. Just food for thought.

It might help if you spelled it correctly.

Name calling will earn you another vacation, though.

gonna laugh my butt off when he winds up on some AL team, say.. oh, the Yankees, and all the fans either whine about it, or cheer for him. Will be quite amusing.
