Anywhere else that he goes, he'll likely play Short. He's a pretty darn good fielder.

Anyway, as an Angels fan, I hope they don't sign A-Rod. I'd love to see him with a halo of course, but really this kind of deal is just going to kill whatever team he goes to.

He'll settle for less money and play for his old buddy and end the 100 year curse? He would love to hold that over Jeter's head.

It would actually be kind of cool to see him in a Cubs uniform, playing in the Series. Unfortunately, as others have brought up, that's not likely to happen with the ownership situation in Chicago.

...Actually though, as I said above, it's probably better for the Cubs that their basically out of the (possible) bidding.

If the Sox make a real attempt at him...... I don't know. I can't stand the guy's behavior, but he is one hel l of a player.

i think he should go to the rockies to insure he breaks the home run record...

personally, If I were a fan, I would rather see A-Rod..just because he is not the steroid spokesman that Bonds is...If I were an owner....who was forking up the money...I would not sign either. Mike Lowell or Garrett Atkins are 10 times cheaper than A-Rod. Than I can use the rest of the money on pitching..which really wins championships. I'd rather pay Johann Santana $30 mill a year than A-Rod.

I wouldn't. Pitchers are way more unpredictable than hitters, and are much more likely to suffer an injury that has a large effect on their value.

And, in this offseason, assuming A-Rod opts out, the only other good free agent third basemen available is Lowell, and besides Curt Schilling, there's basically no quality pitching available, unless you wanna overpay Kyle Lohse.

You'd have a hard time proving that.

Someone will give A-Rod his $30 mill per year. And frankly, that doesn't bother me. What bothers me more is that someone will also give him the 10-12 years on the deal. At $30 mill a year for the next 4 or 5 years, there are teams that can handle that for a player of his caliber, but there's no way I'd want to be locked into that as he moves into his 40s.

yeah 3 to 4 years might be reasonable length of contract but no way I'd give ANY 32 year old a 10 year deal...

    Agreed.

I think that there will be interest, but I'm really not so sure that anyone will bite on a 10+ year deal. Of course, then someone will...

Yeah, I agree, the length is the real turn-off here, not so much the money.

Bonds - Old, Maybe a season at DH

A-Rod - Not Old, barring injury a good 8-10 years in his tank.....

    A-Rod hands down....
