Thread: What's the difference between Dunn and Howard?

Re: What's the difference between Dunn and Howard?

How many times do I have to repeat myself?

I've said MULTIPLE times that Ryan Howard is probably the better all around player, and definitely is when you factor in the current cost of each player.

I'm not disagreeing on that, and you seem to continue going on like I am, when I've stated multiple times the contrary.

(Also, Adam Dunn is making $9.6 million more, not $16.2 million)

    These are my points:

    1) When looking strictly at their offensive production this season, they're identical, yet one does not get the credit he deserves, and the other probably gets a tad too much credit.
    2) It is hypocritical to lower Dunn's value because of a high strikeout rate, but not do the same for Ryan Howard.
    3) It's not right to name Ryan Howard an MVP candidate, when Adam Dunn has done exactly what he's done (plus, stole more bases, and struck out less).
    4) Adam Dunn's reputation AROUND BASEBALL (not just with the Cincinnati fans) is severely undeserved, as he does not have the reputation of a very productive offensive player, which he is.
you are right as always happy ?GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD,bye bye ...I will use Boomboom's recomendation in the future.

It's not my fault that you completely ignore what I've said and continue arguing against something that I've already agreed with. There's no need to be condescending about it.

not another locked thread I hope
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are .

Re: What's the difference between Dunn and Howard?

I don't see the argument against these points.

    1) Are Ryan Howard and Adam Dunn this season nearly statistically identical?
    2) Is it right to lower one player's value because of a certain statistic, but ignore that same statistic for another player?
    3) How can one player be an MVP candidate, while an identical player doesn't even get a sliver of a mention as an MVP candidate? (Okay, this one, people will bring in "leadership" and "intangibles" and what have you, whatever, this one isn't my main point)
    4) Does the reputation that Adam Dunn has match up with what he actually is?

The answers to 1, 2, and 4 should be fairly indisputable, especially 1 and 2.

So it's hypocritical. Who cares? You asked for the answer, then got mad at the answer when we gave it you. I don't understand what you want.

Re: What's the difference between Dunn and Howard?

I've already repeated multiple times that I understand why fans of their respective teams have different views of them, and that I understand why they're reputations as players, overall, are different.

The thing I have issue with is why what they do on the field has wildly different reputations. While one player is viewed as an MVP candidate, the other is view as a "drain" on the team almost. This is not deserved.

I guess I just can't understand why people have to take off-the-field things and apply it to what they think the player is giving them on the field, when a record of what is given on the field exists and is indisputable. Since people seem to be unable to distinguish between actual on-the-field production and off-the-field reputation, I'll never understand why Adam Dunn is viewed as a mediocre to bad offensive player while a statistically similar player is viewed as a perennial MVP candidate.

Well here's some advice for you. People don't think the same way as you and if it try to figure out why people think the way you do, you will go insane. My advice - take it for what it is, make your own mind up after research and never try to figure out how other people's brains work.
