    10.31 Non-existent No Hitter [Fixed 10.31A]

I was looking at the Milestones Transactions for the year and noticed a no-hitter. I looked up the player and sure enough, he was credited with the no hitter on his transactions page. I then went to his pitching record and noticed that he never started a game. I then went to the Calendar and noted that his team lost 3-2. I went to the box score and he never appeared in the game.

Note also that Ross was credited with a non-existent complete game as well.

The 'game log" has an entry for the game even though Ross did not appear and threw no pitches.

Is Cincinnati your team? Are you playing games in PBP mode?
Someone reported earlier that substitutions made in PBP mode can cause this.

It looks like his team is Boston.

100% simulation. I also checked 1951. Moe Burtschy had a no hitter and a complete game that year without ever starting a game.

Cincy isn't even in my league. Except for a trade, i have had no dealings with them.

    Re: 10.31 Non-existent No Hitter

I went back and check the last season I just finished simming today and found there were 3 no hitters thrown since I updated to 10.31 from 10.29. Now 2 of them look legit, game log shows 9 ininngs pitched no runs allowed, no problem, but it shows Jorge Julio with a no-no, but check his yearly stats line for 2008.

I sim 1 game at a time, no pbp ever, I check the opposing pitcher, adjust my line-up and then sim that day.

Pretty good year for milestones, all since updated to 10.31: 3 no-no's and 3 hit for cycles.

I got this too. A game simmed between two computer games, and a pitcher got creditted with a no-hitter despite not pitching in the game. Gamelog shows the game with all 0's.

    Re: 10.31 Non-existent No Hitter

I'd be curious to see the Play-By-Play text.

Is it possible the reliever came in and then the winning run scored without him throwing a pitch? A balk perhaps, with a runner on third?

Without looking at the code, it could be doing something like awarding a no-hitter if all of the following are true:

    1) The starter threw every pitch
    2) The pitcher who finished the game allowed no hits

In ALMOST every situation, fact #1 would mean that the starter threw a complete game, and finished the game. So this logic would work. Except when a reliever comes in and allows the winning run.

I wasn't able to reproduce the bug, but it looks like I was right about how it could have been caused. I think I've fixed this in 10.31A by ensuring that no-hitters and complete games are only awarded when the starter truly pitches the whole game.

I checked the recap of the game it happened in in my game. Oakland's starter went 8.2 innings and allowed the winning run in the bottom of the 9th. The pitcher that got creditted with the no-hitter (and in his game log had a line full of 0's) never appeared in that game. He also does not appear in the box score.

My relief pitcher came in with 2 outs in the ninth and a runner on first, that runner was caught stealing on the very next play and my reliever was credited with a no hitter without throwing a pitch, cuz playing in manager mode the pitcher's pitch count doesn't change on stolen bases or attempted steals

    10.31 Pitchers stats incorrect

Ver. 10.31. Let's see where to go with this. Under "Milestones" Don McMahon of the NYY is credited with a no-hitter, but checking his log shows he pitched 1/3 of a inning in relief without allowing a hit and got credit for a save in a 3-2 Yankees win. Then looking at the box score McMahon is not listed in the pitching line and, finally, under the box score he is credited with a save, but it show (0) next to his name, indicating no save. Think that does it for this post.

Thanks Reade. Went to the link and saw it was the very same "bug" you reported. I don't upload "unofficial" versions, so, I'll wait until the official version comes out, just hope the bug is a rare occasion, but it doesn't really affect the outcome of games, just stats, which are not accurate anyway with the incorrect earned run problem still arround.
