Question Should I buy this game?

Well, I've read a lot a problems about this game unfortunately. I enjoyed an older version back in 2000 or 2001. I will say if I'm trying to make a trade during the draft and it crashes I won't be pleased. Do you lose basically everything you did in the game? How many times does this happen during a season?

Draft trades happen every time with no exception. Assuming you saved before the draft starter, like a good player should, you will lose everything that you had done in the draft up to the point you tried to make the save.

Having played a few versions of this, and having thoroughly enjoyed the 2003 version until my hard drive crashed a few years ago (I had the downloaded version of the game), I think you will be extremely disappointed in this version of the game and should NOT buy it. I would wait and see if Clay tries for FM 2008 because as of right now there are so many little problems with the game to go along with the crashes that it's not really enjoyable, especially if you are a hardcore football fan. Things like: leading NFL tackler has 85 tackles, leading NFL sacker gets 8 sacks, NFL rushing touchdown leader has 8 TDs, your 3, 4, and 5 receivers are wasted if you sim the games, if you get a good kicker he'll kick 14/20 FG passed 50 yards. None of your back up defenders, except for your CB / S 3, 4s will play either and the only reason they will play is because the play selection has an inordinate number of nickle and dime sets.

If Clay adds 150+ new plays and gets the mechanics of the players worked out properly for 2008, I'd buy it. This game isn't worth it.

There very likely will not be a Football Mogul 2008. See: http://www.sportsmogul.com/content/2007_plans.htm

I don't know, the relevant portion is confusing: "So, our main concern with Football Mogul is that we are able to fix all the significant issues in the current version before worrying about any sequels. It's possible that there will be a "new version" in August 2007. However, the focus would be on updated stats, AI improvements, and stability -- and I expect we would offer a significant discount to people who already own Football Mogul 2007."

That seems to suggest two things:

    1. Work will continue on bug eradication/improvements to FM2007

    2. The possiblity of a "new version" could mean either that: a.) A patch for FM2007 comes out in August or b.) Some new entity that is a noticeable improvement over FM2007. But if people have to pay for it, wouldn't it be FM 2008? I'm surprised this announcement didn't get more press. Do you know anything we don't about this, Ohms?

I think the game is an enjoyable game, but there are some major issues...

Yea, it's not perfectly clear. Of course, it was written in January as well... I think that behavior since then is a fairly clear signal that work on FM is going to be limited until at least the end of the Baseball season. I get the feeling that there's going to be a few patches for 2007, with the long term goal of overhauling the game engine in general. There probably won't be a new version until at least 2009.

I think Clay actually said that, I'll have to look again. Anyway, we'll just have to wait and see is all.

Edit: well, looks like he was talking about Fooball Mogul Online, not Football Mogul. Still, I'd be somewhat surprised if there was a brand new version next year.

I really didn't expect to get more "no" votes than "yes" votes on here. Still contemplating. Maybe I'll buy the baseball game today, but I was really in the mood for the football game. Disappointed to here it's not as good as it should be at this point.

If this is your first Sports Mogul product, I highly recommend purchasing Baseball Mogul or joining Baseball Mogul Online rather than purchasing Football Mogul. Their great games, but Football Mogul is decidedly "rough around the edges".

if the plan is to NOT manufacture a 2008 football mogul, I believe all of our questions have been answered! NO, we will not see any more improvements to this game, fixes, or answers to our questions. By stating that football mogul will probably not exist next year means it's pointless to seek feedback on any of our football mogul issues/questions...am I correct?

I have played earlier versions of football mogul and have been entertained. I just don't know if I'm up for simming 162 games. I like baseball but it seems a little too much for me. Maybe this game is fine for what I want to do.

Not really. Just because there won't be a new version of FM (which is not an absolute certainty) doesn't mean that there won't be any Football Mogul at all.

Believe it or not, the sims seem to go by really quickly... grab the demo and give a season a shot. Either you'll be hooked or you'll find that you're suspicioun was correct.

Re: Should I buy this game?

Just downloaded 18M or so of the 2007 demo, ran it and am told there's an update from version 3 some to 5 some. Program downloads 5M more and then says 'I can't find the install directory'. Uhm...what the ? I installed with the default options and it can't find it? Clay, did you contract it out to a bunch of high school kids or something then? Unbelievable. The current download should be the most recent. I'm with one of the above posters, the 2003 version was great, but last years was shoddy and this one... well... going to skip the update and play version 3 something and see.

    I'm loving BM2008 and am considering FM2007.
Does it come with historical teams throughout the years, or only the latest season?

    Thanks.

Only in your dreams. If you love BM2008, my best advice is to not buy FM3007, because it will change how you feel about the company.

I agree with tacoboy... they're two different games.
